On the verge of signing for Hull.

Crazy that every time we or Hull get mentioned with somebody the other team is in the mix. This happened last time. But I am confused why I never see Coventry's name mentioned.

That’s because SuperFrank is so brilliant they don’t need strengthening………

I am fascinated to see them in the Prem. I mean, congrats to them last year, they walked it. They go up with the kind of energy and self-confidence we had last time. It didn't work well for us, and I doubt it will for them, especially if they don't bulk up as their gung ho could go disastrously bad.

But, the good thing is that they will attract all the "underdogs" media attention. We are old news so will not get that billing in the same way this time and I think that will help us, we can just concentrate on the (very difficult) job at hand and not become the circus sideshow.

Idk if anyone else is sad enough to consume more fpl content than a grown man should but they all keep saying zcov are the best of the promoted teams. I hope we prove them wrong because its getting annoying.

They were the best team last year, doesn't follow they will be this but its certainly the medias narrative isnt it

Given that this has now been given legs as a link, does anyone know anything about the player (apart from the link to Hull). Sounds like he is an Azor equivalent, but is he more proven, more of a nailed on prem starter? Are we looking to put in place the modern equivalent of Skuglas? Burnley wont be giving him away

Price wise Burnley have just paid £20m, but I understand that was an obligation rather than an option, so doesn't necessarily indicate they did it to turn a quick profit. Equally I can't imagine they would be selling him for less, so somewhere in the £20m range is probably where this would be at.

I did see him on a few occasions last season, looks a good player in that defensive midfield position. Brings top flight experience from Portugal, France, Spain and PL. I think he's a step up from Matusiwa, I'd be keen to get him.

Just spent the last 20mins watching some 'highlight' vids. I think he passed the ball forward 3 times those vids.

Big fan of ball retention but looks VERY similar to Matusiwa, perhaps a tiny bit more mobile. Perhaps an Ok pick-up as an alternative but certianly not THE answer to our midfield problems.

Well 25 starts for Burnley last season although I don't know how many in the Premier must be more Premium league experience than any other of our midfield squad although the presently unfit and linked with a move away Taylor has some experience under his belt . I just hope this link and the fact that we still have not added to our midfield means we are struggling to get our targets .

Not one that wows me this, only seen him a couple of times mind, yes he's ok but not sure, as others have said, that he would be the answer we seek.

Was really good at Benfica when he played next to Enzo Fernandez and Joao Neves, good ball winner and decent in possession allowed those guys to flourish by doing lots of the "unspectacular work".

Outside of Benfica it hasn't gone too well for him, he is also not a great athlete and I really think we are missing some athleticism in midfield. In possession he didn't really give Burley anything at all.

Not really an inspiring link. Last minute moves always come across as desperate, although I imagine the club had been tracking for a while.

It is going into the area now where we need players in the building to get them fit and working with the team for the first game in a little over 3 weeks time.

This happened last time they start to panic and we ended up with SS who is now for some reason on loan and not sold to Derby and Ogebene at a cost of nearly 20m, yes 20 million pounds.

That is the sort of signing that got us relegated last time. We need to sign better.

Off topic but Szmodics is on loan with an obligation because it's better for the accounts.

His value is likely lower than his amortised cost, so if he were sold that loss would be recognised in this year. Whereas if we loan him he stays at amortised cost and we can recognise the loan income.

Got Burnley relegated, never mind us lol!

He's very much a Matusiwa type player though.

When i think again it clearly an accounting process, however the fact remains we have players we bought for good / massive money who can't off load and that comes down to panic buying the last time round.

This player from Burnley has a good bit of European experience and a season in the PL, so compared to say the panics we bough last time it does not seem as bad.

I am trying to add some balance but deep down I know this is a very expensive potential signing as we do not have the players right now to make a team never mind a good go at it.

I'm not sure why people see £20m on a player who has 100+ Benfica appearances under his belt, plus a season in La Liga for Getafe and a season in the Premier League as a higher risk than similar money on a 19 year old Norwegian or 22 year old Brazilian forward with a handful of top division goals to his name.

There's risk in all signings, I'd argue someone with with Florentino's experience is lower risk for the here and now. He ranked top in the division for tackles & interceptions per 90 for 3 years running at Benfica, and was up there again in the Premier League last season (top 5).

I would agree he'd need a high quality #8 next to him if he joins, but in that #6 position he's one I'd be keen to see us sign. Similar mould to Iroegbunam who has been linked in the past.

Regrettably I have to agree with you as I feel we are making a Pigs ear of our recruitment, how on earth can we hit the ground running with no midfielders to speak of . I have been saying similar for over a month now and have seen noo progress.

Regarding the fee, the rationale for Burnley to sell is to get him off their books as one of their top earners - the purchase was an obligation to buy, and while they would be looking to recoup as much of that as possible, I saw £15m being the initially discussed number on the BBC website when Hull was the proposed destination. While that would crystallise an instant loss for them, it would seem about the right sort of level for a buyer?

No-one is saying he is the answer on his own, but him and a couple of more forward looking energetic CMs could put us in a good position in that department

Also wonder whether the Fulham link is related to the possibility of them losing one of their own defensive CMs...

Based on the 'data' this lad from Burnley does have seem to have something going for him.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I have never heard of him or seen him play...

It'll certainly be in that region, I would guess somewhere around the £20m mark, offsetting what they've been obliged to pay for him. Potentially less but with add ons, or a loan deal with obligation which means Burnley wouldn't need to recognise that hit.

I said before and I stand by it for now is that we don't have all the moving parts (hate that term) in place yet or aligned and it is now fairly obvious the recruitment is not where it needs to be, at this time.

We rose up the leagues so quickly we are trying catch up with ourselves which is a kind of a blessing and a curse.

Everyone has their opinions on our CEO and chairman, I don't think he is a PL operator but clearly he is an established EFL operator with massive successes, but that is where that begins and ends for me anyway.
