Just driving passed now down the A12, well obviously I am in the passenger seat, a very large plume of smoke rising up and drifting North.

The term ‘wild fire’ annoys me though, because if someone started it it’s not wild is it, it’s arson. Guess with a fire that big they might not be able to tell though.

So much important habitat for birds, insects and reptile being destroyed, too. Very sad. There were some really positive improvements in species diversity over the last few years. It will take years and years to rebuild that.

The cost to nature and wildlife is terrible.

sizewell now has a huge building site to its north which has been cleared of all shrubs and trees and anything combustable. a fire would need to cover 1/4 mile of bare ground and then force it's way through thick concrete to do any harm there.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

It's only Arson if it is a deliberate act to start a fire. Also the source of the fire as far as I know has not been established. It could well be natural.

Drove up the a12 for the first time in a while last week. Its lots of roundabouts and cleared trees now isn't it.

it is. the number of mature trees that have been felled is astonishing - many, many times more than will be lost in this fire. how they built sizewell b without all this destruction across the area is a mystery. plus there's the new additions to the grid, and the huge solar development. at the moment it's all a big impact in a small and special area.

Wind has changed to off- shore now, I think. I'm in Yoxford, I can smell the fire now, subtly, but it's there. I couldn't a few hours ago.

I lived in Thorpeness/Leiston for a couple of years before I moved back to Melford and have been up to Minsmere with my old man in his campervan for a weekend's birdwatching loads of times over the years.

Minsmere going up in flames terrifies me, they spend so much time there growing plants and planting tress specifically to attract certain breeds of birds to create a perfect habitat. If that gets all razed to the ground then that whole ecosystem that's been there is Ruined In A Day.
