really let us down last time around when we were in the Premier League, and while I'm rather happy with the rest of our business, I am a little concerned we once again appear the be neglecting the middle of the park.

Great to see Luis linked, but we need two, maybe even three robust midfielders in, preferably with Premier League experience-
Azor and Marcelino are options, but we're going to need better than them if we want to stay up and I really do not want to see Jack-bloody-Taylor playing in the Premier League again.

Last season only Cov conceded less than us. We had the lowest XG against.

Fair. Guess it's the difference between the eye test and statistics. It still doesn't change my mind that I feel we have consistently been easy to play through; that teams were able to get behind us quite easily and put us on the back foot. That's not to say we didn't regroup well, or throw our bodies on the line, but it's what I've felt watching us through recent seasons.

I mean, if you can't clap happily after that then you're destined to always be miserable.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I just responded to them on another thread - I don’t understand them. Not sure what, short of winning the Champions League would make them happy. One of the most pointless people on here! They expect us to have a full squad ready today to start in 3 weeks time - living in computer game world rather than the real one.

"need better than [Azor]" - I can't believe we didn't learn the throwing babies out with bathwater lesson from our last trip to the Prem.

Chim chiminy, chim chiminey, chim, chim, cheroo,
Who needs N'Golo, when we've got Matus?

I don't think he is Premiership quality. I agree that our CM recruitment was poor last time.

I downvoted you because I thought your delivery was disrespectful. After all, it wasn't him doing the recruitment, and has always given 100% in 2 promotion-winning sides.

Sorry, Jack - I’m sure you’ll do well at Birmingham.

If it was not for Taylor we wouldn't even be in the Premier League now which, admittedly, goes back to your opening post regarding recruitment! But I think he deserves more than being sneered at considering his efforts last season.

Think I’ve either miscommunicated or it’s been misread there- I think Azor is great- he’s the one midfielder we have that I think could be a Premier League player- but in recruitment right now, we need to be looking at players with Premier League experience- like Luis and Lukic, preferably lads who are experienced internationals.

That’s what I mean by “better” than Azor- who frankly, was a one man midfield, last season.

Honestly couldn’t believe he got minutes last season and that we didn’t find a replacement then- I seemingly wasn’t as impressed with his running around and “giving 100%” as everyone else was.

down arrows mean you disagree with some part of the post, not that you think it's the worst thing ever written (as libero seems to understand)!

no need to sensationalise everything

Oh aye, I’m not arsed - I think I communicated pretty poorly tbh.

I do feel Taylor was signed without consideration taken on whether we played to his strengths. From watching him at Peterborough it feels like he's preferred role was something we didn't really utilise in our formation. Considering Cajuste's collapse in form, he was still the best second option we had, and even Neil flattered to deceive after he joined in January - possibly because he was signed as Matusiwa cover more than anything so they were hardly complimentary as a pair.

Dan Neil reminds me of when we signed Chris Wood - he’s actually a very good player, but was woefully off the pace due to a lack of minutes in him, at that stage of the season.
