He is mentioned in this as a potential breakout star, and his all round stats for last season seem impressive.

https://www.theguardian.com/fo

He has certainly impressed me in the last two games, and I don't think he counts towards the 25 players squad limit. It is also interesting to note that we are now offloading Wes Burns.

Whether there is any significance in this I don't know but Mendel does seem the closest direct replacement we currently. have for Fatawu.

Of course, it may well be that a loan would be best for his development. And O'Neil clearly won't stand on sentiment.

But I can dream.

We should be bringing through potential stars. But the facts show, in recent years we never actually do

His brother Stuart is pretty good too. They used to fight a lot back in the day

They're looking to loan him to League One, but no takers as far as I'm aware. I know clubs at a lower level have asked about him but think they're keen to get him to League One if possible.

Thanks Phil.

I must admit I'm surprised at that because he looks to me to have greater potential than others we've loaned out to League 1.

Maybe the article in the Guardian will boost his chances or at least his profile, given he hasn't (I believe) featured in a proper first team squad.

He looked a way off it for me the other night tbh. A few dribbles infield without really going anywhere, miss controlled a couple of decent openings in the box, and generally looked very lightweight.

That last point about stature is the kicker though, if we're talking about potential for the top flight. Players have to be ridiculously good to compensate for lightweight physical attributes.

In fairness though, I'd counter that by saying he impressed me more than Maeda, who looked a bit lost.

I thought he was better than Fatawu against Wycombe and did fine against Le Havre (including putting in a cross which nearly led to a goal), given we had McAteer playing RB for the first time, and O'Neil said he hadn't expected or planned for Le Havre to play with five at the back, so adjusted things at half-time.

Still, despite his undoubted talent, maybe it is his stature which is the issue and explains why at the age of 21 he's never to my knowledge featured in a proper Town squad.

Totally agree with you, some of the takes from him the other night were way over the top. If anything, I thought his performance showed why he is massively so far off the first team here

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

Agreed. He does play some nice football, but he’s far too easily brushed off the ball right now. He need’s significantly more physicality before he’s close to Championship football, let alone PL.

Others who follow the youth teams more closely may well have a better idea, but I get the impression that our academy hasn't yet caught up with the progress of the first team. Hopefully if we can stabilise in the Premier League that may change in the next 2 or 3 years?

Or I might be talking out my backside.

Anyway, I was impressed with his quick feet the other night, but agree with others that whilst he has potential he doesn't look ready for the Premier League.

A bit harsh but bordering on the fair.

Box of tricks and pact but hasn't developed what to do with them and you need to keep the ball in the big leagues. Fatawu's control is many levels above.

Kid has got something though so hopefully he gets that L1 move.

Maeda was defo harsh. He'll be good for us. Off the ball he is such an upgrade.

I'm not saying Maeda won't be good, just that I thought he struggled to really get into the game on Tuesday in an attacking sense.

In fairness to him tho he was still a bright spark in a first half in which we struggled to get a game plan going as we didnt shape up to face a 5 man defence. I highly doubt Mendel would have started tbh if we thought they were gonna do that

Yes they got it all from Opta stats, saw it on there before the Guardian put it up. It should be noted that they had to put up a player from every club, so some of the picks might be somewhat better or worse than others. Only time will tell of course.

At the moment we seem a feeder club for League 1 and League 2 clubs at best.

Indeed, it is perhaps ironic that the only players I can think of recently who have gone higher than that - Woolfenden, Downes and Dozell - pre-date Gamechanger.

Maybe the sleepy Suffolk catchment area doesn't produce the sort of players these days that succeed at the highest level, but it would be a shame if we end up having to rely on other clubs for developing those who make up our 8 homegrown players.

It’s levels isnt it. He looked tidy enough, but 5 minutes of Fatawu in the second half showed that hes really miles off that level atm. Needs a year out on loan.

Think that's broadly fair, but he was so good in the press. He looks about 40 but he runs like a 20 year old. His legs are insanely muscly.
