Proven goalscorer is a must 20:53 - Aug 9 with 1806 viewsringwoodblue

In recent years we have fallen short in our recruitment for a decent and proven goalscorer and I hope that this summer we change that otherwise it concerns me where all our goals are coming from.

We missed out on Wilson who I must admit worried me regarding his injury record. People have mentioned Chris Wood but I have similar concerns about him. I was even hoping for Wellbeck but Chelsea snapped him up.

There have been links with Isidor and Ueda but can’t see them coming to Town. To start a PL season with Emersonn, Akpom and Hirst or Al-Hamidi would be disastrous.

Think a decent striker must be top of our list now and we should be prepared to pay big money for them.

Chris Wood or Zian Flemming would be decent and realistic signings imo. Maybe even one more if Hirst goes!

I think we have to temper our ambition with realism.

You’d definitely think Emerson is viewed as the second choice striker, with one of Hirst/Akpom/A.N.Other as the third option with the main number 9 still to be signed.

But I just don’t think we’re going to be in the market for a proven premier league goalscorer with a good injury record. We’d love one of course, but so would teams with higher budgets and more to offer than us.

The only one i can see that might be feasible is Awonyi?

Third in the pecking order, barely played last season, not included in European squads.

He might just fancy being the main man and I cant imagine he would cost much more than 10M.

Really simple isn't it. And you honestly thought Welbeck would come here? I think you're living in a different reality to me. Everyone wants proven goalscorers that's why they are expensive and hard to recruit.

I was listening to Talking Town tonight and there were complaints over spending 25M on Emersonn as a 'project'.

Prolific goalscorers aren't coming to newly promoted clubs.

Brobbey scored 4 goals in 30 Eredervise games the year before last and went for £20M. Calvert Lewin scored 3 in 26 PL games.

They go to the teams at the top of the division. We get the projects and the cast offs.

And if Emersonn scores 10 goals this season, he's a £40M+ player. That's how the striker market operates.

Please explain? Do you think this is unrealistic or you think we can do better? if its the latter you are going to be disappointed.

Absolutely, sub PL strike force currently ( one with promise and potential ). and very little creativity. Progressive creative CM needed. Gives us options for different games. And please, no one with a dodgy injury record for either position.

Good summary of how it is Belleview. Goalscorers have always been at a premium. Nothing has changed.

Looking at some of the has beens, pensioners and crocks like hopalong Broja being touted around is evidence enough of that and I can see why Emersonn was brought in as a project.

But if we can find one, we certainly do need a goalscorer or at worst a mayhem creator. Without one I fear for us.

Such angst on display. Yes, we need one or two more strikers with the potential to have a fruitful PL season for us, but we have to accept that real proven (10+) PL goalscorers are probably out of our reach.

Only £60m+ strikers are reliable, guaranteed, 10+ goals every year, proven players. Not coming here this year.

So we go with three good, sensible, investments, spread our bets, build a solid base and hope that the team contributes goals and one or two of our strikers have a breakout season.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

He's totally unobtainable for a few key reasons.

1. He's Spurs' starting striker. Even if they sign someone else they won't be letting him go
2. If he was made available, there are 10 Prem teams who would get him before us

You’re going to be very unhappy to hear Solanke is one of our main transfer targets this summer, GON wants him and we have asked spurs about it.

Tend to think people overstate how important it is to have a striker than scores consistently. There were 11 teams that had a striker score 10 goals for them in last season's Premier League, 7 of the 9 teams that didn't stayed up (including Sunderland).

What you need is a striker that does every part of the role well - holds the ball up, battles defenders, links play and is able to act as a focal point. You need a team that functions well enough to not need to rely on one guy being unusually clinical. You'll likely need goals from across the forward line, from set pieces, occasionally from midfielders and full backs.

That might not require someone whose career goalscoring record is especially stand out.
