| If Enciso signs will he be the 9? 08:29 - Aug 12 with 3388 views | Blue_Heath | With Egeli in the 10? Or will we sign another striker? Like a previous post I read earlier scratching my head trying to work out our likely first XI and formation. McKenna used to tinker with personnel I wonder will GON tinker with formations? Interesting times ahead. | |

| If Enciso signs will he be the 9? on 08:31 - Aug 12 with 3361 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | He has done both, played false 9 role a bit for O'Neil. He has the endurance and physicals to press like a number 9. Based on what we have in the door think it would likely be Scherpen DOS Diop Greaves Leif Lukic Florentino Fatawu Enciso Maeda Emersonn [Post edited 12 Aug 8:31]

GON) are right behind Sindre this season, and see his as an integral part of the team, let alone the squad. He's looked really sharp this pre-season, playing in a position that clearly is much more suited to him. Really really hope it's his season this year.

So a 4-2-4-1 formation? Think we need a proven striker up top if that's the case unless you swap Emmerson for Enciso and then put Egeli in Enciso position? An attacking trio of Fatawu, Enciso, Maeda excites me if the two holders can play forward balls quickly. [Post edited 12 Aug 8:34]

| If Enciso signs will he be the 9? on 08:39 - Aug 12 with 3196 views | itfcsuth | I'm going to hedge my bets and say he'll be in the 10 - Sindre has certainly played his way into the conversation in pre season, and has looked very good centrally, and will certainly be staying around the squad now. Where I see us now: Scherpen New RB - Diop - Dara - Davis Luis - Lukic Fatawu - Enciso - Maeda New ST | | | |

4231. Thought I put 12 players down there for a minute. We clearly want a more experienced striker. I think we will sign Flemming tbh.

| If Enciso signs will he be the 9? on 08:51 - Aug 12 with 3019 views | TractorJack | Number 10. Still need at least 1 more striker. I'd also bring in another quality number 10 if anyone is willing to take Mehmeti and/or Nunez off us. Sindre can compete for that spot but he shouldn't be relied on just yet. | | | |
| If Enciso signs will he be the 9? on 08:56 - Aug 12 with 2914 views | Wallingford_Boy | He’ll be the 10, Egelli won’t start. But I think he’ll be the main back up in that position, has moved ahead of Mehmeti and Nunez. | |

| If Enciso signs will he be the 9? on 09:02 - Aug 12 with 2849 views | BloomBlue | I'm 100% certain we will play with the famous 'false 9' a lot of times this season, and Enciso is the player for that position. Although knowing when to pass versus shoot is key in that role and that was a weakness he had previously - hopefully his decision making has improved. Conversely that shoot on site can help when coming off the bench. As Brighton fans said about Enciso when you want a sub to come on and shoot because none of the other players are shooting, that's when Enciso is a great. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

A couple of strong performances in some warmup games and suddenly he’s a superstar (again). I suggest a need to calm down! I wish we wouldn’t build up SWE. That happened last season at the start, all the talk of he is a wonderkid etc. Egeli looks to have come back fresh, stronger, and a new manager is playing him in a different position. Fingers crossed…

I can see us bringing in another flexible CAM if Philogene goes. Pretty sure Maeda can play #10, so perhaps someone like Nwaneri from Arsenal as a deadline day loan deal?

Nah, he's gonna be a superstar. Not his fault he's was played out of position last season, he had no chance to kick on.

Agree on sindre, seriously can't expect him to go from a difficult first season to a wonder kid over a summer, but the signs are a lot more positive was never a wide right player,

SWE has an amazing ability to find space, Chappers was very good at this but SWE is even better, in fact he appears to find more space in the centre than he did wide right, in games where he is in the centre he is nearly always available and in space as an option, I hope we get to see more of him in this role this season.

In the event that we don't recruit another striker, I'd use him as the 9. He's played there a lot for O'Neil. Emersonn can be used sparingly as he adapts to the Premier League. Egeli can get his chance because he's looked proper sharp in the 10. Scherpen O'Shea / Diop / Greaves / Davis Florentino / Lukic Fatawu / Egeli / Maeda Enciso When we're under the cosh, Fatawu drops in as a wing-back and Egeli drops into central midfield where GON has used him a couple of times in pre-season. If Egeli has an off game - which he will, because he's young - he can be subbed for Emersonn and Enciso can drop back into the 10.

We do have some good versatility there now. Maeda could also play the 10. Then you have Clarke or Philogene if he still exists to play on the left. Egeli as you say.

Haha, I think that the promotion celebrations from last season where he is a shy kid in the background will be used in some random sky documentary about his career progress, in a decade when he has become a world beater! Too much? Possibly.
| If Enciso signs will he be the 9? on 11:16 - Aug 12 with 1742 views | jayessess | I would assume Enciso's being signed to play as a Central Attacking Midfielder* and we will want another striker. At this point I wonder if the first day line up is already set (Scherpen; O'Shea, Diop, Greaves; Davis, Florentino, Lukic, Fatawu; Maeda, Walle Egeli; Emersonn?) and anyone signed now will be a bench option? Though Enciso's level is so high, maybe he'd be one we'd stick straight in above Walle Egeli. *Feel like, I'm increasingly irritated by referring to positions by number - 6s and 8s, 10s and 9s. English needs more specialist words for these roles like Italian does! [Post edited 12 Aug 11:33]

Enciso has had a full pre season, you would imagine is fairly familiar with GOs system. Think he would have a good chance to start.

You may be right. But if that's the case, assuming we do sign Enciso, can we really be keeping both Nunez and Mehmeti as well? Seems like a lot of 10s.

Real boon to us and Enciso that he's just cracked on with Strasbourg's pre-season as normal so he can hit the ground running. Always think it's silly, naming no names, that players and agents decide they should avoid involvement in proper pre-season to force a move. Like, why would you want to start life after your big money move under-prepared for the season to come!

Yep. Feel like he was back really soon after the World Cup as well, could be wrong. His engine is a big part of his game so even if he starts for us after minimal training sessions he will at the least run around a lot and bury one from 40 yards.

We should revert back to referring to each position based on the player who made it famous - particularly for the midfield and attack. I suggest: - The Makelele role. - The Xabi Alonso role - The Wes Burns role - The Bergkamp role - (suggestions for the left wing roaming inside role?) - The Drogba role And don't forget the Park Ji-Sung role for a player who notionally has a position but actually just man marks a single player for the entire game.

Park Ji-Sung role? I'll have you know that is the Roger Osborne role for those with rather more wrinkles they'd care to admit.
