If it doesn’t arrive then ring them on the Friday and they can send out a digital ticket

Probably the old style QR code ones.

Thanks, will do! 🤣

I'm Mr grumpy about the post atm, I nearly missed a hospital appointment recently.

This is why i don't see the need for it to be Apple and Google wallet only.
When I buy a train ticket to the game it sends me an eticket which I scan at the station, its still an eticket. Not sure why the need to insist on using nfc only as scanning a ticket is still digital.

People on here seem to not realise they are giving up on their civil liberties. Once you give those up you never get them back peeps. You will be tracked more and more. Never sell your soul to the devil. Cash is always king

Do what the germans are doing and they had massive restrictions after ww2 so they bloody know

....part of the terms and conditions next season.

Digital ticket or no ticket.

Without sounding like a total b'stard, if you are incapable of using a digital ticket then I expect you need to be accompanied to games anyway, so you can just have your ticket downloaded to the phone of whoever holds your hand at games.

Sorted.

How anyone survives without a phone these days is beyond me (not saying I agree that everyone should have one).

My mum is mid 70s and she's mastered online banking and everything else you need a phone for. And she was never a techy person.

For those who requested and were approved for a physical season ticket, has anyone received the physical ticket yet?

My parents (in their 80s) received the email on Thursday saying it’s being posted out. But not received yet and understandably they’re getting a little twitchy they’ve not received the physical card yet.

There is nothing stopping in being in an app, and I suspect the Town app will move in that direction.

The thing is, those apps you use and all scanning a QR code are on borrowed time, and will disappear over the next few years.

NFC is far more secure than scanning an image, but until iOS 18 was introduced, third party apps didn't have access to the NFC API on the phones. They do now (from 2024), and all will migrate to NFC after a transition period. It's a similar story with Android.

So enjoy your apps with camera scannable etickets - their days are (very) numbered.

"Probably the old style QR code ones."

It could equally be an NFC card / tag, which is the obvious alternative with the move to proximity etickets. These are readily available (I have them as an option for my cars authentication, although prefer to use the phone).

Maybe someone will report back on what is mailed out - but I bet it's a physical NFC key.

Would the Premier League genuinely relegate a club if they said no to digital?

I’ve been looking at ways to transfer the NFC details to a physical card myself, so I can pass it around friends as they use my tickets.

I have writable NFC tags around my home for automation but do you know of I can transfer the ST to my own physical media?

Not sure, but promoted teams even from next season have been given 2 years to implement it. So I guess they're assuming 2 years is sufficient

I have had smartphones for 15+ years and like technology. I have downloaded my ticket after the ticket office sorted an account linking issue for me. It will be easy for me to use.

That said, I am reluctant to insist everyone must own a smartphone and must use the Apple or Google Wallet apps. I know people without smartphones and there are also concerns about the power of the American tech firms. Technology should help us, but I dislike it when it becomes mandatory and I worry about the people it excludes.

Whether you're using Android, an Apple Device or Windows though, you're already using an American ecosystem so hate to break it to you, but whether you use their apps or not won't make much of a difference.

I know, it is just another step towards reliance on Apple and Google. My point really was that fans should not be forced to use these in order to go to football.

We are ever more reliant on American Mastercard and Visa for all our payments too, which is why the European Payment Initiative has been founded to try to build an alternative. Some counties are advising citizens to keep some cash at hone.

Mobile phones are an extension of you as a human being. My rules for using a mobile phone are use it for its primary purpose... talking.

Difficult to survive without mobile banking use that and the things that come with it. But not google wallet.
No Social media apps, use the websites.
Deffo no porn.
And never share anything you don't want anyone to know.

What makes you say the "primary reason" for a mobile phone is "talking"? That may have been the case 15 years ago, but not now.

I rarely speak on my phone, but it is as you say an extension of my being.
.
Some of these points you make don't make a lot of sense. Why do you think "the websites" scrape less information than "the apps"? Why is Google wallet bad but mobile banking fine? How do you know what you are sharing, seeing as most digital information is aggregated metadata and assumed I'd into based on the websites you visit?

I'm not saying it's not sensible to be aware of data, digital creep, and suspicious of many of the companies that deliver the platform and places we use for our online selves. But these arguments below don't make a lot of sense to me tbh.

For some reason when I replied yesterday, the reply was blank.

For security reasons e-tickets use cryptography to match the tickets to specific receptacles. With Apple and Google smart device wallets (phone or watch) this is done interactively over the internet when you add the tickets to your digital wallet. For physical tags or cards a scanner needs to proxy between the tag/card and the issuer’s ticket database to read its UID and tie it to the issued e-ticket.

The scanner can be either a purpose device used by the issuer to create and mail out these nfc e-tickets on their non-smart device option eg wristband, card, etc or a bespoke app on your device that proxies between the issued e-ticket and you nfc tag/card.

Its because we will be controlled very soon by US tech companies - the country that gave us Donald Trump twice.

Unfortunately Brits will never stand up to it and will simply bend over and drop their trousers.

People moaned the UK Gov started talking about a national digital ID card, 'I'm not having that, they can track me'. Followed by the same people telling those who still want a plastic season ticket, 'tough NFC that's the way the world is going accept it'
Yes millions are brainwashed to trust companies like Apple more than the UK Gov

The irony of it all.

Also remember its Ipswich Town's choice to use NFC, and restrict it to Google and Apple, but for example not Samsung wallet the world's biggest mobile supplier.

Thanks. I went down a rabbit hole with co-pilot and it swiftly took me to the same conclusion as you have kindly shared.

It’s a shame but I’m comfortable using my Apple Watch for the season ahead.

I find I can survive quite well without a smart phone. Aparently until I want to watch a football match.
I am not technophobe, I have worked with computers all my career. I had my first mobile in the late '80's. It was the size and weight of a brick and to give you some idea, it had a carrying handle.
My current Nokia is not going to cut it. So I will have to buy a new one, just get into Portman Road.
