Agreed. I don't think we waited until deadline day, but I guess it's about risk mitigation or whatever you want to call it. I'm all for going for the big moves until the last moment, but that runs the risk of getting nothing or someone very basic as a stop gap. Others maybe think we should go middle ground and not take the risk. I think we almost have to risk it. | | | |

It's a bit tricky to be getting down the line on signing another striker while you are completing a deal on the one you prefer.
Of course, we could have just completed on Broja anyway but I don't think that would have panned out as well as not bothering did.
Our continued failure to get a striker over the line has been an issue, though. It hasn't just been one or two windows. Other clubs have failed to do so too. But then again some have managed it. |  |

Assuming Hirst is loaned out or sold, if our only striker option is Emersonn when the window closes and we are relying on Akpom, Enciso and Maeda to provide cover up top then that’s pretty concerning. Hopefully we get another out-and-out striker in on loan at the very least. |  |

We did and in hindsight that was a correct decision, but ultimately the 'trying' bit does not really matter if the need does not get addressed.
Ashton and co get paid a huge amount of money to get results and it's clear we can't rely on striking gold with a youngster again.

That would Instantly ease my fears somewhat, 11 goals in a terrible side is not to be sniffed at and had a very good season by all accounts. |  |

To me, it feels like we have great ambition but perhaps not the status and/or money to match. We end up scrambling for someone after failing to get a preferred target over the line and, in certain positions, we have failed to sign those further down the list too.
We have to trust the recruitment team to know what is possible, and what is not, to ensure the squad is in the strongest shape possible from September 1st onwards. I don't think any of us who have nagging doubts about whether we will succeed can be blamed after what has happened previously. | |

I'm totally amazed Ueda is still at Feyenoord, never mind Sorloth etc. Guy is a proven goalscorer at both club(s) and country levels, at the peak of his career and of course scored for Feyenoord today in a league game. Gone from being linked with Leeds, Brighton, Fenerbache and us ( possibly more ) to silence. Wouldn't mind betting something is going on behind the scenes at a few clubs at least. |  | | |

I really hope we go for Ueda
Wouldn't be surprised if he went to Brighton but their local journalists seemed to squash it anyway.
One advantage we have over them and Leeds is he would be the obvious first choice here whereas Leeds are more looking for third choice replacement for Piroe and Brighton already have Rutter and their Greek lad who both cost over 30m |  | | |
