They forget that s sizable chunk of our support travels to Ipswich for games, and with the roads coming into Ipswich, and the often gridlocked traffic in Ipswich itself, getting their early for some people means an incredibly early start on their days off. It was a nightmare the last Premier League season when we were stuck in long lines while the security people did some of the laziest bag checks I have ever seen, and it still took an age to get in, even when arriving early because the turnstiles aren't fit for purpose.
The onus for this to run smoothly is on the club, not on the supporters to arrive earlier and earlier to compensate for changes. |  |

When I was looking for a new phone a year ago, there were still a few models that you could buy new that didn't have NFC. So it's not even necessarily an old phone tech problem either. |  | | |

6 or so years ago I used to turn up with 5 or 10 minutes to kick off and walk straight in and sit at my seat. Not really the clubs fault its now a busy event at every home game.
Cant recall any major event (music, sport etc) where you might have to get there early or arrive home late due to queues, volume of traffic or footfall.
What would make this entry and egress any quicker, dozens more turnstiles?? Just not practical.
Do I think there will be huge queues tomorrow? Yes, absolutely no doubt, so I will endeavour to get there early, as ultimately I would rather not miss any of the game.

I’m pretty tech savvy and use nfc for loads of things, so it isn’t an issue for me, but I know people of my generation (X) who wouldn’t know they had a problem walking to the ground. |  | | |

It's easy to forget in the age of media rights that we are still in fact humans (and customers) and we have more going on in our lives than the latest mandated change from footballs ultra-capitalist overloads. The onus is on the club, not the supporter, to get this right.
Without us still going in good numbers even while we were stinking up League One under Lambert, we wouldn't have been bought out by the guys now in charge, who are making a small fortune due to being able to build on a club we kept going for many dark years. If we had stayed home we could have easily ended up like Bradford, Oldham, Swindon and co. | |

The thing is, the PL haven't mandated NFC as the only option - that's the route that the club has chosen to go down.
From the Premier League Handbook:
"“Digital Ticket” means a ticket for a League Match that is delivered securely end-to-end through electronic means and includes (without limitation) the following:
(a) near field communication (“NFC”)-enabled mobile tickets, dynamic or rotating mobile barcodes, and
(b) static digital mobile barcodes or QR codes."
The club could just as easily have chosen to go with live QR codes (like those used by Train Operating Companies and some bus operators) rather than NFC. It surprises me that it hasn't been used as a fall-back option, given that the scanners seem to use both NFC and QR Code technology. | |

The PL rules state digital, the PL never enforced that to be NFC, the clubs have chosen NFC. Scanning a QR code is also digital. | | | |

I think that essentially sets the options from which a club can choose - they can choose as many or as few of those options as they wish, so long as 70% of their ticketing operation comprises 'digital tickets'.
I got a physical ST card this season, and it has a QR code on it, so the tech certainly exists for the club to use QR codes (static or rotating). | |

Part of me wonders whether, with the decision having been taken by wealthy middle-aged men, the fact that a number of older smartphones don't do NFC wasn't considered, because there wasn't anything other than the latest Apple/Android flagship phones in the room. | |
