Nunez 10:13 - Aug 24 with 2203 viewsspringfield

Lots of players talked about after the game Saturday

But apparently Nunez covered more distance than any other player in PL

Impressive!

pedantically, he didn't cover more distance than any other player in PL, that was matt crooks.

he did run more than any other player, which is still mightily impressive!

Nice I don't remember these stats being public before. We had the 3 highest recorded sprints of the game. Diop and Emersonn with 34.1 and Leif at 34.

I was worried after pre-season because he looked sloppy in those final few but he was fantastic on Saturday.

Whichever one of him/ Taylor leaves will be disappointing provided we sign Palacios as rumoured.

I'm sure last season he broke the Town record for distance covered in a game since we started using Opta. Don't think I'm making that up.

I thought he was really good. We all know about the creative side of his game but he really stepped up and showed a lot more - workrate and excellent defensive skills - that block and clearance in the 2nd half! :-)

I thought the same after pre-season, and was a little disappointed to see him in the starting eleven, but so glad I was wrong, he was everywhere. Quite competitive in midfield now so maybe theres a desire to fight for your place. Can only be a good thing.

He was noticeably tighter with the ball and did the simple things well. Very impressed with him. I did think last season he was too sloppy and was trying too hard with the killer pass or the worldie shot.
I noticed some criticise him for not being that box to box 8 or not driving forward with the ball. Last time in the PL, we had one CM who was a club legend who was one level too high at his late stage of his career doing all the dirty work whilst we also had a show pony CM doing fancy turns and not helping out with the graft... and we got overrun every game. Whoever plays beside Lukic needs to work their ass off.
Nunez done good and even if Luis is fit... Nunez is in contention.

I've been sat looking at the outputs of various players too.

Our front four is pretty rapid... if we can get the ball to them in space (that's the key) then we'll always carry a threat.

Diop, Greaves, O'Shea and Davis all posting very respectable numbers too.

Emersonn 34
Enciso 31.8
Maeda 33.5
Fatawu 33.3

I'm sure many have figured it out, but FOTMOB is a nice easy resource for this.

Jonathan Douglas used to cover about 12k just strolling around in circles!

He, like many others, had a great game. At one point (think at 1-1) defensively he made 3 tackles in one Sunderland attack including clearing it away.

He was sometimes pressing at the top end and also making blocks in our own box so not surprised by that.
