It wasn't. When coming back from an offside position to play the ball, the free kick should be awarded where the contact took place. It is therefore possible to have a free kick for offside in the opponent's half. | | | |

Seemed like they were under clear instructions to be playing right on the last line last night. It came off a couple of times so could see why they were pushing it.
The offside player will always be the one to get the blame but thought there a couple of them where the player was clearly signalling they were about to make the run and the player on the ball delayed a fraction in making the pass by which time the runner had already committed. | |

You couldn't tell from the TV coverage whether McAteer was on or not. He'd pushed up quite high, so may well have been off. It'll be one of those we never know unless there is a proper replay angle. |  |
