While we are taking tactics on newly promoted clubs.

They are in a narrow 5-4-1, as clear as a system you will see without the ball. A lot less open space in the middle of the pitch than our games. It’s a true flat back 5 as well, the 3 CBs are than close together are going to win a lot of balls that come their way.

I just don’t see what they are going to do when they concede first goal at this level though lol.

Villa still look quite threatening.

I do sense a villa goal soon. Theyve shown some examples of getting through that backline.

We could learn from what I have seen so far. Holding shape well, not getting turned, not pushing up to far and leaving space behind. Villa have had one or two mini openings but not created anything clear cut really.

Which is fine if hull get a goal themselves

Personally i dont want to see us playing every game like we are a non league side v league side in the fa cup.

Indeed. They are holding the line well and pressing hard. A lot of energy and strong work rate. Backed by a vocal crowd.

Hull aren't playing pretty but they are effective, playing 3 at the back and making themselves hard to break down.

Compare that with us running around and formation all over the shop looking like conceding every time the opposition runs at us.

Let’s give Hull credit, they have had less time to prepare due to their Play Off victory, but have coped and made those adjustments. Their manager is just doing what he feels best for his team to compete and to stay in games and so far it has worked well.

It’s effective though. It works for them. I don’t think our defence could do this. We just aren’t resilient enough. We may have a better attack but if our defence isn’t up to it we are only heading one way Im afraid.

It helps that, from memory, it's how they got out of the Championship. Us and Coventry were more expansive.

Of course. They have league standard players

But their football is what you see in a non league v league side cup game

Sit back. Flat back line. Try and nick a goal if you can on the counter.

No not at all. Just adding that it sounds great how youve written it. Yet it does include playing two sides who havent scored a goal yet in 3 games.

Sunderland finished 7th with a minus goal difference but they only conceded 48.

Considering most weeks you have a talent deficiency, not being open is important.

Villa looked a shambles at Brighton then played the best defence in the league. Let’s not pretend they don’t have players to hurt Hull lol

You’ve described their tactics but to suggest you have to be 5 leagues apart to play it is false. Teams do that at all levels against superior opposition.

I kind of expected / hoped we'd go 10 men behind the ball, blood and guts, head and kick it in the last 2 fixtures.
