The luck was in the making of the goals obviously. We clearly allowed too many chances but it does not mean there was not a slice of luck.

I honestly don’t think we made Liverpool look that good. They had their 10 minute spell which killed the game and we matched them thereafter.
As I’ve said on the other thread, yes they make have taken their foot off the gas, but them playing at 75% is better than about a dozen teams in this league playing at 100%. |  |

Liverpool. Come to PR off the back of two draws including scoring 2 goals away to newcastle and scoring two goals against forest. They then score 2 goals at PR and yet we made them look good?
Utd. We played away with them making 4 changes to the lineup and for the first half all pundits applauded our efforts and said we were matching what utd were throwing at us and were really impressed witb our performance. | |

Well, this is a ridiculous post.
A Liverpool team that struggled against Forest and Newcastle and didn't win either. We gave them the most comfortable match possible.
A Man U team that lost to Hull and now drew with Everton. Both teams that we should be aiming to be above in the table. They absolutely battered us, and we fell apart in the second half.
The only team either Liverpool or Man U have won against was us, having also played Newcastle, Forest, Hull, and Everton.
It's safe to say that yes, we did make them look much better than the other teams did. [Post edited 6 Sep 16:39]

There's a thing about losing respectably. Of showing fight, guts, understanding, making teams work for the win. Let's be honest, we didn't do that during the first 10 minutes on Friday. We laid out the welcome mat for Liverpool. Yes, last Sunday was unfortunate, though you could ask why were so exposed at the back when 1-0 up approaching half time, just prior to Nunez's slip. And we did mentally collapse thereafter, with no attempt to change things tactically. The one positive from Friday is we did regroup and fight, rather than repeat the issues at Old Trafford. Though, even at 75%, it was still very easy for Liverpool to get through us even at 2-0. A couple of very close offsides the other way - and, let's face it, it was luck rather than well played by the defensive line - and it could have been four. | |

Utd should have scored a handful v hull. They also should have scored more today. Just like villa yesturday. Liverpool had opportunities to score more v newcastle and forest.
Why are you after 3 football games basing us making teams look ordinary soley based on results?
Personally for a side with a new manager. 14 new players. A midfield thats only had 60 minutes together. Defence partnerships to grow and a keeper too. I think 3 points sitting 13th after 3 games is absoutely fine. | |

Our squad cost us £311m, Man Utd’s cost £862m and Liverpool’s cost £980m. Their squads are also a lot more settled than ours. We’ve made some stupid errors and there is much to improve on but there is so much more to be excited about and the relentless negativity of some after 3 games is baffling and boring. I apologise if I have come across negatively but it's how I feel. I believe we have the makings of a good team that can stay up after a small fortune in Ipswich terms having been spent. From my point of view, my concern is it's exactly the same issues as two years ago. Too open, too expansive, giving good players too much time. My hope is O'Neil adapts but, considering how the likes of Fernandes and Isak have otherwise started the season, the OP (and my response) is not an unfair reflection of what happened against United and Liverpool - though there was a lot of misfortune against United. | |

Though I think I have argued enough that I am not overly impressed with Hull, unlike others, and believe their position is as much down to luck as it is judgement, if not more. You'd think it wouldn't continue, but it got Sunderland 7th rather than the xG position of 18th last season, so who knows. | |

If youre managing to out perform your xga then yes its a sign that the opponents have ballsed up their chances more than youve actually defended well. | |
