Something is going down in Portsmouth… on 09:10 - Sep 7 by OldFart71

I am concerned at a certain amount of flippancy regarding these boats coming in. You may agree with mass immigration or you may not. The fact is this country cannot afford all of them.
Whether you believe certain channels or not the main channels for reasons only know to themselves refuse to cover these stories.
Sensible immigration is fine and the reasons these people come here when in safe havens in other countries on the face of it appears due to our tendency to take rules and regulations by the ECHR and laws introduced by the Blair government to the max whereas other countries seem to abide by what they decide.
There is no doubt that immigration in particular is ripping this country apart, along with many of the policies that Labour seems to think whereby they are in a hole but just keep digging.

Nobody agrees with people entering the country via these boats. Not one single person.

Where people disagree is on how to deal with them. I for one wouldn’t be callous enough to suggest if one capsized we should just leave them all to drown but I’m sure there are certain people who might.

Hundreds arrived over the weekend (again). Sitting here shaking my head how someone can say the any reaction to it is out of proportion. How many people arriving would warrant the attention it's getting? Thousands, Tens of thousands?

The Quasi fascist thing is really boring. Not wanting uncontrolled immigration is neither of those.

Do you honestly think masked vigilantes roaming our streets and smashing things up is a proportional response to a below EU average rate of asylum applications?

There is no uncontrolled immigration.

Numbers arriving in small boats are way down and almost negligible in any event. 30,000. 0.04% of our population. And less than 20percent of net migration of people here through formal routes. Of course many of those on small boats whom are rejected and many have genuine asylum claims.

Marching in black masked outfits is about as quasi fascist as it gets. As is continually making a big thing about foreigners and immigrants regardless of facts.

This. So much this.

The constant misrepresentation on this really grinds my gears.

Nothing was smashed up, and zero arrests in Dover.

Above or below average. Clearly many people have had enough.

As above. It's now stated that 1 in 100 is a genuine claim.

Any number of people arriving on a boat not invited, is uncontrolled.

And no initiative by any government will ever get that number to zero be they be arrivals by boat, lorry or walking over the Irish border.

By an anonymous source? Surely the better stats would come from seeing how many applications are granted. Unless you are claiming a grand conspiracy of a system deliberately approving bad applications because of wokeness. Which would be silly.

Approvals are of course significantly down because of changes to the guidance applied.

There’s too much in here to unpick, and I see some have already started, so I’ll just respond to a couple of your misconceptions that other people haven’t addressed yet.

1. We’re not a soft touch compared to other European countries. There are other European countries accepting more applications and pro-rata (15 per 10,000 residents) we’re below the EU average of 18 per 100,000 residents. Any one person having to make these journeys is not good of course, but we can only manage flows of people and not completely stop them.

2. I can’t make much sense of your grumbling about the government’s response, but if your point is they’re doing nothing, that’s incorrect. It’s hard to know their role in reducing the number of irregular arrivals of course. But it’s very easy to see how Government have worked to reduce the huge backlog of cases. It very much looks like we’re starting to get on top of things; arrivals down, caseload down.

Morally we should process every claim to identify those who are genuinely in danger. Small price to pay to protect our international reputation as a safe haven for the persecuted.

I totally agree with you. It always boils down to the same thing. Anyone remotely questioning illegal immigration gets labelled as fascist right. It is so totally boring.
If anyone as a tax payer whether working or retired isn't concerned that this government will come for them with yet more taxation because whether people like it or not these migrants cost a huge amount to process, feed, clothe and accommodate.
It doesn't mean someone isn't compassionate or has any sympathy with these people in most cases they are being exploited by traffickers. But Starmers " Smash the gangs" won't happen as they are being run from lands far away. Just as those that peddle drugs use people to do their dirty work are very rarely brought down and when one trafficker is arrested there's another to take their place.

Who smashed anything up?

Why does it matter that the % is below average, we are a small country, and don't have unlimited funds, and have our own people to care for and provide much needed services/care to.

I can't get my head around anyone simply just accepting this level of illegal immigration on a weekly/monthly basis.

How are things in Norway? don't believe they have anywhere near the levels of illegal immigration that we do

How about addressing the factual arguments raised in this thread? "Yeah but" is not really a valid counter.

This year 38% of applications were granted. Whilst no system is perfect, it's a notable decrease reflecting stricter rules being applied.

If the whistle blower is correct then you have to assume that 37 out of every 38 applications being granted are wrong for some reason. What is more likely on the information available? That the vast majority of decisions are wrong or that the completely anonymous source who offers no evidence to support the claim, is mistaken lying or biased?

people come up with this masked vigilantes thing and I have no doubt that just as the large scale protests last year had a certain amount of very right wing people who do stir up trouble a huge majority were law abiding people.
but whatever the grievance or cause people protest about you will always have a faction that takes advantage and will cause damage and loot and that's a fact.
In my opinion the Tommy Robinson's of this world should keep out of these protests and it is right that people of any colour, nationality or religion should be expected to be lawful.
But if you get a government that completely ignores the will of the people you will end up, sadly, with vigilantes as it becomes the only way to make a protest be heard.

Is it not enough the government has lowered immigration from 900000 to 100000 odd ? It’s a huge drop, and will continue to do so.

In regard to immigration in general I go into care homes, hospitals and people home and a huge majority of care staff and nurse are immigrants, we are screwed without them and the local population aren’t likely to step up it seems

Home Office whistleblower’s “1 in 100” asylum claims claim

A former Home Office insider has told multiple outlets that only about 1 in 100 asylum applications are genuine, alleging that many applicants use identical “scripts” and fabricated evidence to support their claims

The whistleblower, who spent years assessing thousands of asylum cases, said the asylum process has become “a massive fraud” and “almost no aspect of the asylum system is either a massive fraud or just really dysfunctional”

This is from many media outlets this morning.

Maybe identical scripts happened because multiple individuals used the same AI source?

And we should let immigrants work, we need them -

In what way has the protest not been heard such that these threatening protests are a reasonable reaction?

Bear in mind the significant drop in immigration and that the argument is in every piece of media pretty much everyday to a completely disproportionate extent?
