Doesn't mean we will win either, of course.
But I'd say 4 points should be the realistic. However, if we fall short, I won't be throwing toys out the pram. |

In my opinion that a tad overly negative. If we play for a full 90 minutes as we have for good periods in the Sunderland and ManU games, we can definitely beat either. It’s a big if, but definitely a possibility. Both are dangerous in attack, so we also can’t ‘lapse’. | | | |

You have to wonder where points will come from if you aren't looking for ones against Palace. Early days of course, and Palace may finish 8th for all I know. But it will be disappointing to get nowt in the next two, and all too reminiscent of two years ago when for me it was the games (albeit at home) against the same two opposition when I thought ah sh1te, we just can't compete properly in this league.
Sure, if we play well, compete well, and are unlucky it's a slightly different story... but back to point... then where will the points come from? Us being spawny?

I think our home form will be key to staying up. To win away against PL sides that have been up a while is so damn difficult. Target home games against the likes of Palace, Fulham, Bournemouth etc. as must not lose and hopefully pick up the odd wins way to keep us up. |  |

I honestly think this is one of the most naive things that is said on here, especially considering the league we are currently operating in.
Lets be honest, there isn't 105 points to play for, there are games that we simply aren't getting anything out of, no matter how hard we try/well we play.
Palace, with no disrespect to them because they are what we should aim to be, are a team where we can aim to take some points, and if we don't, that's a huge negative for us in terms of the seasons final points tally. |

Probably more like just over 6 but the point is it doesn't have to be so formulaic. There may be the odd time we get two wins on the bounce or 4 games unbeaten with a couple of wins and some we lose 4 in a row.
Any talk before Christmas (unless we have completed Imploded) of must win is counter productive. We know a lot of games are important but not do or die.
Reality is if we lose against Palace and win at Everton then we are on 6 point through 5 games and we probably go up a place or 2. | |

To be fair to the OP the title says must not lose not must win which seems to be the phrase being repeated.
A strong start definitely a strong indicator of survival for promoted teams.

Our business was pretty decent, but the gap between a lower-mid Prem team and a newly promoted team these days is still going to be massive - we under-estimated the difference last time, think Coventry are probably under-estimating the difference this time.
Players like Wharton, Timber, Pino, Sarr and Mateta are in and around the best international teams in the world.
We've potentially got Palacios in that kind of league if he settles in, and maybe Enciso too, but with our back-line of O'Shea, Greaves, Diop and Davis we're going to struggle to keep clean-sheets / pick up points away from home a lot of the time. We've definitely got a chance, but talk of expecting 4 points from the next 2 games, or saying this is must-win is a bit over the top.
We need to turn over quite a few teams at home, like we did against Sunderland, and then we need to pick up a few lucky points / surprise wins away to bolster that, and they could come anywhere, really. |  | | |
