Expensive lump hammer paying for itself on first use - two bashes on a Suffolk door latch that had kept jumping open straightened it out nicely and solved the problem, saving handyman call out :)

Ah ... Keno and Mellow, you've touched on two key moments in my life ...

My first hearing of 'If I had a hammer' was sung by Trini Lopez when I was 14, on the way back from a holiday with my bestie and her family in the New Forest, at exactly this time of year (possibly even the same date). Was just beoming socially conscious I guess, found both the choon and lyrics immediately very emotional, haunting, and I think subconsciosly possibly life-shaping ("the hammer of justice, the bell of freedom").

'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' takes me right back to married life in London in mid-30s. Friends of ours had had a late baby, called him Maxwell, bantz that he was named after the song etc.

We've done our research !!
So you were married in London in the mid-30s. You must be about about 110 years old ! Ducks as mug is thrown at head ...

Sounds good I have a vast array of hammers big old 14 pounders, club hammers, brick hammers, claw hammers, toffee hammers….. Lady B bought a new bird bath the other day,it came with four lawn hooks to keep it upright in the wind.

Which hammer did I knock them in with i hear you ask? A hand axe was the closest thing to hand so that was used!

My small pleasure was yesterday saving all that rain water into my butts.

And that, my friend, is always a win.

Chest freezers are a proper dad flex. I can guarantee it's got about 500 choc ices, from c 1983 stuck in one corner as well, hasn't it?

Only a proper Dad flex if, like Martin from Friday Night Dinner, you secretly keep a dead fox in them.

I was using an axe yesterday, looked at that big old log and thought 'this wee thing will never do it'...but get cussed enough and it will. Here's one for you, mon:

'Van Vliet enrolled at Antelope Valley College as an art major, but left after one year. He worked as a door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman, and sold a vacuum cleaner to the writer Aldous Huxley at his home in Llano, California, pointing to it and declaring, "Well, I assure you sir, this thing sucks."'

That's the perfect solution to many problems. If in doubt hit it with a hammer. Not advised for marital problems though.

I worked for a while at a Marconi radar testing site.

The best advice I received from the foreman was, "Don't force it son. Get a bigger hammer."

About 15 years ago, when my washing machine bust I decided it would be difficult to take to the recycling tip so I decided to dismantle it into bits, just to see what it looked like, really. I discovered there's a massive concrete ring thing in it that weighs down the drum. I kept that bit which has become a really useful heavy weight, for weighing things down in the garden when stormy.

I like to have a breeze block and a few left over block pavers for just that reason!

I feel the words in the outro of this gem need hearing again.
There is nothing better in life....
