....I genuinely didn't know what the issue was.
Then I saw the cropped and heavily darkened version of it that is circulating.
Interestingly, if you search for it now, the edited version is the predominant version and the one that everyone sees, you really have to search for the actual original.
Utterly manufactured outrage.
Converse released both images, and it was the cropped version they put out on their social media which received the reaction.

I've seen many, many people on the left (of different racial backgrounds) say it's absolute nonsense and stupid - and I agree. But you stick to a binary simpleton way of reading the world if that helps you.

I agree that's a sensible solution in most cases such as the old 1970s stuff. These sketches though are parodying racism and are not really "outdated". Why do they have to butcher someone's art like that?
I wonder if its the creators that edited it, as there are other things on i player (such as the mighty boosh) which have retained some elements that may offend now, such as Noel Fielding's spirit of jazz character.

I think I read it was discussed with the producers of the show but not necessarily Mitchell and Webb themselves.
The Spirit of Jazz character, and the whole Mighty Boosh show, is the sort of thing that my left brain just loves, but in that example, even though it didn't cross my mind back in the day, I can see how that could be a problem much more than Mitchell and Webb.
For me, the BBC aren't going woke mad or however you may want to describe it, they're simply terrified of getting into trouble after the list of problems they've had in the last decade or so, and therefore are going for the safety first option. I suspect Mighty Boosh will get cut when they get around to noticing.
