Cue the usual, fossilised cynicism from both sides of the spectrum, but I have a good feeling about this bloke.
It won't be possible to achieve everything, but I'd rather someone took a political risk and gave it a bloody good go - there's no point pissing around with an eye on five years time, we need some fundamental change based on all of us, first of all, providing a solid, social base, and developing responsibly from there where possible.

Agree with you and OP. CGT is too low and for example is encouraging a generation of business owners to flog, mostly to PE as the tax advantage outweighs staying and earning standard profits.
I'm pretty indifferent in terms of political alignment. Am probably more conservative economically but given where we are I think he's been incredibly sensible and made a load of logical decisions so far. Good on him.
He was far and away the most effective candidate, and with a real stage presence and charm at the husting I attended, something which I always thinks helps when it comes to connecting with the electorate.

I am a centre-right conservative, frankly with no political home since the Tories moved to the far right of Reform. It may surprise some of our users that I wish Burnham all of the best, as I would do any incoming PM and Government. Just because I didn't vote for them, I want the country to do well, and I hope that he gets it right regardless of the old left/right blinkerisms we now see dominating the political debate in this country.
We desperately need a Prime Minister to get it right this time, regardless of the rosette, we can't continue to decline - we will collapse as a nation if we do.

I loathe self checkouts for the reasons you give, but you can do some things to prevent these job losses.
Insist on using the manned-checkouts, even if it means queuing. Alternatively, be old and doddery when you do use the self-checkout. Literally take 20-30 to check out and slow up the checkout process - if enough people do this, people will stop shopping at these places.
