Is the new regulator's main remit not the sustainability of the league? Clubs changing hands regularly isn't good for anyone.

They were saying Palace were looking for re investment the other day on the Radio and that they had been valued at 900M, not sure how they are worth double Ipswich with that bin of a stadium.
| US owners of Everton, Palace, Brentford and Sunderland all looking to sell on 11:21 - Oct 9 with 1819 views | ITFC_Essex | While I know the end game for Gamechanger is to sell us at a huge profit and maybe buy a "bigger" club, not all ownership changes are good and it could be good for Town to have 4 league rivals have takeovers at around the same time - especially as they are the teams we're trying to replace in this league. | |

Stadiums mean nothing, the media money for content is where the money is, you don't need a good or big ground anymore.

So Spurs just decided to build a new stadium for gits and shiggles? Not because it makes them triple what they get in TV money? Man Utd want a giant new stadium is for the entirely selfless goal of getting more fans in, not for any financial gain? Man City have just extended the Etihad, Liverpool have extended Anfield. Everton built a shiny new stadium too. Forest are looking at major expansion. Can a well run club with a small stadium survive in the Prem? Yes, Bournemouth exist. but it's an exception to the rule. Practically every club realises that in order to maximise revenue and therefore spending power and therefore give themselves the best possible competitive advantage in FFP and SCR, they need to maximise the revenue outside of TV money.

It makes sense for anyone who has piled money into a club to extract some of it whilst values are high. Its a sensible hedge whilst continuing to maintain an investment.

They own the land the stadium sits on, we don't. Now there are plus and minus re ground ownership, but ultimately CP own the land and could sell it, thus there is value in the land, which adds to the value of the club.

Valuations are wild and £900m for Palace does feel punchy, especially given Woody Johnson reportedly paid £190m for 43% last year, which is a valuation of about £450m. Not quite sure what they've done to underpin doubling that, but what they're asking for and what they might achieve are different things. Valuations of 100x profit are ridiculous tbh, even considering the level of assets these clubs hold. [Post edited 9 Oct 13:01]

In real terms they can run these things in empty venues, and still make money, as proven during Covid- the media and "content" creation is where the money is. It's even easier for Spurs, they generate a fortune outside of matchday, same with Manure, they are more of a brand than a football club these days. Spurs don't run a football stadium, its an events stadium, like West Ham, the football is just part of the portfolio, not the whole business. That's where we are at now. Selhurst Park isn't a disadvantage to anyone wanting to buy it, it needs work, like a lot of grounds do, our still has a way to go too.

They can't run on empty venues without massively tightening their belts. Commercial revenue is the biggest income source for the big clubs, but matchday revenue matters just as much as TV money to the big 4-6 clubs. Those extra punters through the gates (in addition to commercial deals) help so the big clubs can spend so much more than everyone else. Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United all made well north of £100m in matchday revenue in 24/25 while we made £11m for comparison. That extra £100-150m pays for their transfers, means they don't have to be selling clubs and can pay the top wages we simply never can.

FFP is anything but, it just protects the rich clubs. Elon Musk could buy Ipswich and we still wouldn't win the prem as he'd be unable to invest at the levels needed. I suspect a few years down the line if all goes to plan our owners will look to sell too.

| US owners of Everton, Palace, Brentford and Sunderland all looking to sell on 10:29 - Oct 10 with 194 views | RetroBlue | Looking to sell probably coz its costing them a fortune for little return. The pot if gold is only Champions League and very few clubs are able to achieve it. There's just made up the PL numbers, at huge costs. This is why the top 5 should just sod off to their multi national club,b" super league", then the so called Premier League could be a true reflection of normal football ( or as near as you'll get it now) in this country. Sky money will follow the top 5 they're nit interested in " the rest". They can't even bring themselves to articulate our club's name during matches. Tossas the lot of em and never more demonstrated by sutton as a so cslled pundit! | |
