This must come under the file of away games to take points from. While some are pointing towards the fact they didnt play particularly well against Brentford, I maintain , they still got a point out of it ( very similar to the outcome of our own game against Forrest).
Very similar clubs and set ups , increased by both being fresh from the championship. The similarities do not end there, both also have a very strong team ethic and spirit as is witnessed by both teams occupying mid table positions prior to the game.
I would most certainly take the point if it was offered here and now, they are physical, with the stature to win battles through the centre of the field. This is something O'Neil will be aware of and a similar line up to Manchester City must be a possibility. Matusiwa in midfield would be my choice beside Palacios. Another hard fought game coming where we will have to be at our best and utilise the squad throughout.

Hull are going to lose the stat battle in almost every single game they play this season but they are, by design a team that prioritises solidity and staying games as long as possible. If they manage to stay in games they got a little bit of X Factor up there in Belloumi who's a terrific player and a couple of live wires off the bench.

That being said. They havent won a game since the 29th of august (although I though they were unlucky not to get all 3 at Stamford bridge) and personnel wise they are massively overperforming where they should be. Tim Iroegbunam looked decent on his first start but a midfield 2 of him and Regan Slater should be second best to Palacios and Lukic. Purely on paper it is the worst starting 11 in the league (maybe Cov) imo so credit to their gaffer who is doing an amazing job.

Walton
Ouatarra
Diop
Dara
Leif
Palacios
Lukic (Florentino if SL not fit)
Fatawu
Enciso
Maeda
Emersonn.

Of course a point away would be good but a win would be a great result and isn't out of our reach. That said, they could easily beat us. They are a good side who have done well so far. Interestingly, they have drawn all of their home matches aside from beating Man Utd on the opening day.

Did the double over them last season...no reason to be settling for draws this season considering we've clearly strengthened our squad to a greater extent than they have

The were a hard side to play last season and they are better at it this season while keeping some really good teams, better than us, at bay.

Unfortunately a chunk of our support see Hull, and assume thats 3 points. I am optimistic, but a draw won't be a bad result away there either, although we will start to get pulled into the mire a bit more if we don't win it.

If everyone is fit and we play like we did on Friday at the back, we'll get more chances up top and should have enough to win. I'd start Clarke though, over Jaden, and I say that as one of Jaden's remaining fans here. Clarke has earned his place as a starter now, he has been that good on and off the ball for us.

I wonder whether Philogene being an ex-Hull player may give him extra motivation (if that's possible). I think I would start with Philogene. He is playing himself back to form as he has returned from injury for me. Clarke remains a very good impact from the bench.

I am probably wrong though.

I may be out of turn for saying this, but I think Jaden may be a different type of character than you usually see in football, he comes across neurodivergent in my personal opinion. I don't think scoring against a former club is something that will motivate him any more or less, I think he plays his game regardless.

Matusiwa? No chance, if Lukic is fit (which I believe he is) he starts.

Plus to be blunt, he has been dire in his appearances so far this season. I'd much rather see Clarke or Maeda play.

Maeda to start, Clarke off the bench with 20 mins to go. Jaden 0 minutes.

Tough game, we're away from home and they'll very much be looking at picking up 3 points against us and I don't blame them.

Tzolakis is a quality keeper and they are pretty economic with their chances at the other end.

Big Tim is a nice upgrade for them, Palacios and Lukic should be able to control that midfield though.

Belloumi is a bit of a superstar imo, he's really upped his game and is quick enough to cause Leif a tough day if he gets a run on him.

We certainly need Enciso to unlock something here, and I suspect Fatawu and Clarke to start, will need a lot of effort to beat a back line that doesn't give up many chances.

Will be an interesting game.

Lukic with Palacios. Maybe Matusiwa off the bench later on. We're going to want our best unlockers and exploiters up top (Maeda, Enciso, Clarke), backed up by Davis and Ouattara, plus a bit of hold-up and harassing strength to pin down defenders (Emersonn).

They aren't massively high scorers, so if we can put two goals away, that stands us a good chance of the win. Tho that will not be easy by any means.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Yep, one that they will have put a big red ring around to say "must take points"
Football is of course unpredictable, but our squad is stronger than theirs, and we are playing some really decent stuff, and most importantly, creating chances.

I think this will be an away win 2-0 Town. But I wont lose sleep over a draw

I would not be surprised to see JP start this one, he ran riot against this lot twice last season.

EDIT - JP did not play against Hull at home. I got confused.

This is a game we really don't want to concede first. They defend resolutely, and have the home advantage. Really don't want to be chasing this game.

Keep it solid for the first hour, then go for it towards the end when we bring our finishers on.

I watched their game against Brentford at the weekend and they have such a clear playing style that is difficult to play against. They really disrupted Brentford's rhythm and never let them get going. Brentford looked quite poor, but I think that was more to do with Hull not letting them play the game they wanted to play.

They get a lot of balls into the box. Big game for O'Shea and Diop, but also Ouattara and Davies will have to be switched on, can't be allowing any back post overloads.

In general, we have more quality than them, but then again, so does every team in the division. We'll have to match them toe to toe, take our opportunities, and defend stoutly. Set pieces will certainly play a part.

He'd be up against Lewie Coyle on Saturday if he starts, so should really have a field day. I'm no Philogene fan, but I do think this is a game for him, purely based on the opposition.

I'd love this to be our first clean sheet of the season - and based on how Hull play not unlikely . . .

I actually think thats why his agents take a particularly strong handle on him. He comes alive on the pitch where he shines but he's a very different case off field. Nothin wrong with that, but I do think people need to take that into account when they criticize him.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Scherpen return in goal. As someone said earlier, they put a lot of balls into the box, and that would play to his strengths.

They've made themselves really difficult to beat and they work at disrupting you. Therefore, I think this might a game where the "moments" make the difference, so feels one more for our flair players, Enciso, Clarke, Philogene, Fatawu etc could well be key.

Also really hopeful that Lukic is fit, allowing Palacios to step slightly further higher, as his passing may well help unlock things in the final third.

I don't remember anyone running riot in either game against Hull last season. If I remember correctly the evening away performance at Hull was bloody awful . The last 20 mins we played a little better and scored two

Yes, but the 24 minutes he played in the game at their place were amongst the best 24 minutes of football seen in Hull last November. 2 games worth of running riot in that 24 minutes.

Away at Hull he came on we scored twice and he made an assist. Not a bad impact, Hull did not deal with him.

My error on the home game.
