How highly do the fans regard Paul Hurst?
LC: The club was heading nowhere but down when Hurst was head-hunted from Grimsby in October 2016 and he has totally transformed their fortunes. He is idolised by supporters for, first of all, somehow saving Town from almost certain relegation last season before conducting a squad clear-out and building a team with a totally different ethos.
Fans love his straight-talking attitude. Hurst is not afraid to say it as he sees it and for him to have taken them from the bottom to the top of League One in less than two years is astonishing.
There is obvious concern every time a Championship job becomes available and Hurst is linked. The boss has certainly attracted suitors from higher divisions.

All a bit pathetic really. It's football. I felt a bit sorry for them when people here were laughing we were stealing their best players, but as frustrated as you are to lose players like Waghorn, we've all accepted he's 28, in the prime of his career and looking for one big final pay day. Who can blame him. Career progression is natural and like you say it's even weirder when Shrewsbury poached him from a smaller club, but now he's the snake when we've done the same to them. | |

Yes its unfair but we have had our fair share of losing players for pittance its just the way football works.

Ah, I knew it was one of the M-field teams. So they've twice poached managers from teams promoted back into the football league and they can't see how us taking Hurst is basically the same approach they've taken. Either they've utterly deluded about how big a club the are or they're on the wind up. | |

I think this is the big problem from Shrewsbury's point of view; the feeling, whether accurate or not, that we approached Hurst behind their back prior to the Play Offs - whether than be the semis or the final. Though if the board were that bothered maybe they should have submitted a complaint to the FA rather than griping from the sidelines.
