Shrewsbury fans calling Paul Hurst a "snake" 16:59 - Aug 6 with 3897 views | MaySixth | were saying this about him in April 2018 How highly do the fans regard Paul Hurst? LC: The club was heading nowhere but down when Hurst was head-hunted from Grimsby in October 2016 and he has totally transformed their fortunes. He is idolised by supporters for, first of all, somehow saving Town from almost certain relegation last season before conducting a squad clear-out and building a team with a totally different ethos. Fans love his straight-talking attitude. Hurst is not afraid to say it as he sees it and for him to have taken them from the bottom to the top of League One in less than two years is astonishing. There is obvious concern every time a Championship job becomes available and Hurst is linked. The boss has certainly attracted suitors from higher divisions. DS: He’s almost a god here, especially due to the fact of where we were this time last year. The pathway on the roundabout near the ground has been named after him!

Unprofessional dog whistle quotes and very unfair on PH. He hasn't joined their rivals, or joined a lesser club for more money, he's taken a clear step up in his career, as he did when he joined them from Grimsby. Get over it.

Didn't they then poach Mansfield's manager to replace him? They have as much self awareness as certain posters on here.

Macclesfield's. Just after they had returned to the football league too.

All a bit pathetic really. It's football. I felt a bit sorry for them when people here were laughing we were stealing their best players, but as frustrated as you are to lose players like Waghorn, we've all accepted he's 28, in the prime of his career and looking for one big final pay day. Who can blame him. Career progression is natural and like you say it's even weirder when Shrewsbury poached him from a smaller club, but now he's the snake when we've done the same to them.

Shrewsbury fans calling Paul Hurst a "snake" on 17:11 - Aug 6 with 3629 views | flimflam | Pretty sure little ole Grimsby didnt think much of them stealing their manager and best players so this is no different. Yes its unfair but we have had our fair share of losing players for pittance its just the way football works. Plus they got Nolan and Toto for peanuts so not sure they can complain too much.

Ah, I knew it was one of the M-field teams. So they've twice poached managers from teams promoted back into the football league and they can't see how us taking Hurst is basically the same approach they've taken. Either they've utterly deluded about how big a club the are or they're on the wind up.

I thought exactly that when I saw the highlights show and the ex-Macclesfield defender headed over. So they took a smaller clubs manager and then a player from them. Just like we have done from them.

Shrewsbury fans calling Paul Hurst a "snake" on 17:58 - Aug 6 with 3261 views | J2BLUE | Imagine next summer we've just lost the play off final after the season of our lives. Newcastle come in for Hurst the day after when we're all hurting. It gets done quickly. We strongly suspect he, or his representatives, were spoken to unofficially while the play offs were ongoing. The transfer window opens, no sign of Newcastle coming for our two star players. Then they make an offer. Our two players immediately hand in transfer requests which sees orchestrated. Again, strong suspicion they've been tapped up. We play our first game without them. Newcastle eventually sign them with 2-3 days to go in the transfer window for what seems a low price. Our slide back to mid table at best now looks inevitable. No wonder they are annoyed. It's the way football works but it doesn't make it any easier for them. People will say they would show more class etc but this forum as a whole would be in meltdown if the above happened.

I'd be disappointed but I wouldn't be angry at Newcastle or regard Hurst as a snake, Newcastle are clearly a massive step up. Would they rather we had publicly approached him before the PO final? And I certainly wouldn't want Evans to come out and mouth off about it.

Many people would be angry. I'm those that are bothering to make these kind of threads are basing them off 1-2 posters. We have plenty who would react badly. Hurst has made no secret of his ambition. If he succeeds here it's likely he'll be poached.

Surely that’s the circle of life as a manager? When PH does eventually leave us, I hope it’s for a bigger club after a job well done here! [Post edited 6 Aug 2018 18:21]

I think this is the big problem from Shrewsbury's point of view; the feeling, whether accurate or not, that we approached Hurst behind their back prior to the Play Offs - whether than be the semis or the final. Though if the board were that bothered maybe they should have submitted a complaint to the FA rather than griping from the sidelines. In comparison he left Grimsby for Shrewsbury in October 2016, so a completely different time of the season.

Had we approached them on Easter Monday after it was decided Mick wasn't staying on then they'd have been annoyed then too

True - I guess their wish would have been for us to not even contact him (if we did) until after the Play Off Final then make an official approach, come to an agreement with the club then speak to Hurst for the first time. Their chairman has made it very clear he feels there was contact at the very least before the final if not before the semi finals, behind Shrewsbury’s back.

Their Chief Exec is just attempting to drum up bad feeling about Hurst and their fans are buying it hook, line and sinker. Making out that they are whiter than white, and do everything by the book when that isn't the case in football. Funny how Their Chief Exec seems to think first he has heard of Hurst interest is from the agent but yet compensation was confirmed as agreed within an hour or so of his statement It all seems very transparent, but some of their fans don't want to see through it

What does he gain from building up ill feeling against Hurst, though, other than trying to create as 'us and them' mentality at the club? Surely it's causing a slightly uncomfortable atomsphere for the players, particularly those who played under Hurst and respected what he did for them and the team last season?
