Spend those HMV vouchers you got for Xmas boyos 13:37 - Dec 28 with 4042 viewschicoazul

And you may want to spend those Debenhams ones too.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Now where will I go to work out what I want to download online?

I went into Debenhams looking for gifts a couple of weeks ago.

Who is that place aimed at these days? Genuinely couldn't work it out, seemed a pretty terrible place all in all.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

The boy has got some Fopp vouchers. Better use them quickly too seeing as they're owned by HMV.

Think that is the thing really brother. The era of department stores, shops that sell loads of different things etc seem to be coming to a close. But people will still want to buy clothes, books, perfumes and collanders so I think specialists will rise in their place.

Debenhams is aimed at older people with little or no sense of fashion. I use them a fair bit, for affordable cufflink shirts and knitwear, occasionally trousers. Quality is generally good. I'm not old enough to go to m&S and not posh enough for Coes.

All about the specialist colander store innit.

Biggest problem is the necessity of having - with the huge and increasing cost of occupying - commercial space within towns and cities. Given they've got to have the warehouses and distribution networks anyway, the front end eats too much of the margin.

Means another load of low-end,/easy-access/starter jobs are at risk of vanishing. Might be low paid and part time, but better than nothing.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

same is true over here; big department store chain, Sears (not Freddie) is about to go into administration today. Been around 100+ years but have been killed by poor management and people choosing to shop online instead.

JC Penney seems next in line too.

I hope they don't go - they were so handy for Xmas presents, and not everyone shops online. My parents love HMV and have vouchers for them. They have only just moved their shop in the last year too.

And Debenhams are great for shoes and underwear. I do not want to buy these things online as I need to try stuff on since sizes can vary quite drastically.

I cannot understand why rents cannot be lower for the bigger stores. Also mystified how the sheer amount of charity shops, coffee shops and nail bars and places like that can afford the rents?

Trying on underwear should be made illegal if you ask me. The number of times I've come across a stray pube when buying Y-Fronts is ridiculous.

Those places are exponentially smaller than Debenhams or Woolworths. You don't see many Oxfams the size of House of Fraser for e.g.
I agree that department stores are great but they just can't compete anymore. The world doesnt need Debenhams and HoF and John Lewis and M&S and and and....

That would not surprise me. Their stores resemble a jumble sale. And remember their “innovative” idea a couple years back when their merchandise had a different price depending on the day of the week? Shockingly that didn't last long
