Keeping the same team 08:40 - Jan 14 with 1669 views | itfcjoe | Hopefully we'll see that tonight, but just reading an article about Sheffield United.... This season they have (after 22 league games): 5 ever presents Dean Henderson missed 1 game due to his loan agreement 2 further players who have started 21 games 1 further player who has started 19 games (Missed 2 from injury, 1 through suspension) So 9 players are basically ever present - pretty incredible really. It really feels as though Lambert has massively overthought the first half of the season with this rotation. We've played 24 games this season - most starts: Jackson - 21 Skuse, Woolfenden - 20 Chambers, Norwood, Downes - 19 Garbutt - 18 Hopefully over the last 20 games there can be a core of 7-8 players who start everyone (or close to) as something will be going right if that is happening

Keeping the same team on 09:05 - Jan 14 with 1589 views | xrayspecs | ...by your own reckoning 7 of our team are pretty much ever present if you add back in injuries (Skuse, Chambers, Norwood, Garbutt) and suspensions (Downes, Norwood, Chambers). That said I agree with you about over-rotating - we have not stuck with the same system or positions week to week. Hopefully, we are close to settling on a preferred 1-11. Keeping the same team on 09:17 - Jan 14 with 1538 views | SomethingBlue | Suspect Skuse comes in tonight and if either of the strikers is carrying something then Keane more than deserves a start, though that does come at the expense of particularly aggressive pressing. On your wider point, though, that's spot on and expanding the core of regulars is something we should have the luxury to do now that we've rotated far more than most. Won't be easy to keep certain players happy but the stakes are getting much too high and we need to do what is best to get us up.

As you allude to, it's not necessarily the number of appearances but where they've played (often in consecutive games). Of those you've highlighted, Skuse has played right back, centre back, in a midfield two and in a midfield three. Chambers has played on left of a central two, on right of a central two and in all three positions in a back three. Norwood has played in a two, up front on his own and wide in a three. Garbutt has played left back, left wingback and left midfield.

Yeah, Skuse for Huws would be my guess, if a change is to be made.

Keeping the same team on 09:32 - Jan 14 with 1479 views | hampstead_blue | Great point. Players are fit and should be physically conditioned to play often. I don't buy rotation. Consistency is my preferred option. Well said Joe, I hope PL is listening.....

Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

There's really no need to rotate any more though and its clearly obvious to everyone who watches regularly that players who are given a run are starting to perform and find their stride together: Jackson, Norwood and Judge standing out particularly. We look more assured and solid all over the pitch and its come just at the right time (whether PL takes credit for that or not is debatable but i'll give him the benefit of the doubt). Rocking the apple cart now after two solid league performances would be non-sensical. Play like we have been with a settled side and we win this league, simple as that.

Agreed but with 3 games in a week there's bound to be some changes. Although I'm not advocating Skuse to return I guess he 'll be in for Huws. There maybe two others, just depends on injuries etc. plus it is away so could see change at RB.

these are young professional athletes. They should be perfectly capable of playing Sat-Tues-Sat. Maybe after two rotations they get a break but..... One double edged sword is the rise and rise of scanning and sports science. Managers know so much I fear they have too much information. How many players did change each week in 1990? It's not a 100% comparison but more an overview. You have to restrain me from playing cricket. That's weird I know.

I'd expect a few changes too (as posted elsewhere). We played a high intensity game just two days ago. I certainly wouldn't expect Huws to start, given how cautiously we've treated him coming back from injury. It's inevitable, I reckon. Personally, I don't have a major problem with rotating players in certain positions - but there does need to be some consistency of formation and a few ever presents in there too, to maintain stability. IMHO. Personally, I'd always stick with the same keeper, centre halves, central midfield pair and strike partnership, assuming fitness and form, but be will to rotate others in/out, if we have the options.

I expect us to play high intensity again tonight and press high up the pitch. Agree that if anyone makes way it'll be Huws. I expect there to be earlier changes from the bench than the starting eleven changing too much though. The instruction should be for players to run themselves into the ground for 65 minutes and then make an assessment then. A win tonight would be the perfect platform to kick on this season.
