I know we are on poor form and cannot beat a top side.

However, at the start of the season I wonder how many of us would have accepted 2 points off the top two, 5 points off top and none of the top 3 left to play?

If (and it is a big if) we can recover our form promotion is there for the taking. Come on Town!

Nobody said it would be easy ...

That will do nicely.

The optimist in me says we will.

However, the realist in me says one of Rotherham and Peterborough needs to mess this up as well as get it right. I am not sure this is going to happen. Let's at least do our part and push them all the way and, if we do have to go into the play-offs, hit them on good form with KVY having returned to full fitness.

Indeed. It's certainly not a bad position even though it's been a pretty disappointing few months since August and September.

Oddly, the nature of the Posh beating which was pretty comprehensive and now a tough away trip to Sunderland might mean we're forced to get back to basics and build the team up properly.

I'd rather we kept it tight rather than messing around too much with formations and players. Keep the team closer together and working for each other like Rotherham did against us and we could start becoming a lot more consistent and confident as the season gets to the important bit.

On paper, our run in could be fruitful and it's certainly all to play for. It's less the league position that concerns me at this stage, it's more our style (or lack of). This year I would've hoped we would see a rebuild and reset, with an obvious strategic direction and identity on the pitch, but I haven't. All I've witnessed is a very much self inflicted derailing of a campaign that had shown some early promise and a side bereft of confidence. Even if we do sh1thouse promotion, we'll be coming straight back down on this evidence.

Yes, unless we can learn to beat sides that are top 6 in this league we don't really stand a chance in the Championship do we?

One step at a time though.

Think Rotherham and us. Peterborough up through the play-offs. We need to settle on a formation and a settled X1. As for next season, we will need investment. I would say around 5-7 million to stay in the Championship. We will need a new CB. A new CM and at least 1 CF. Lambert is meant to be the man to get the best out of lower league buys, so lets hope.

Am I hearing this right, you would of settled for 4th at this stage in the 3rd tier of English football. This club is in a sorry state and bar 3 youngsters our future looks very bleak. Struggle to see the positives here, I understand why you are trying to be positive I really do.

If Lambert could persuade ME that is requires that sort of investment to stay in the Championship we might stand a chance.

However, I can only see ME investing that if it can be raised through selling players. That would then mean we would need even more to replace them as I doubt Dozzell, Dobra and others that are not yet in the team would raise that amount even between them.

Buying well is always the key alongside getting the best out of what we have.

Saying we would have taken this is missing the point.

I would not have taken this when we were 9 points clear of 3rd or whatever we are

In all fairness, quite a lot of people in the summer on here were telling us it was going to be easy.

I'll take my whoosh now.

I just want out of this league. Don't care if we do it with an own goal in the last minute of the last game.

That is also true but really is my point.

At the start of the season there was a nervous air that this was not going to be easy. That start gave many of us the false hope it was going to be after all. Now it is getting tough we need to dig in and get back to that early season form.

It is a marathon not a sprint (a shame as we would have won the sprint).

As I, and not just me, have been saying, we will likely be promoted in spite of our owner and manager, not because of them. We will probably struggle like hell and likely come down again next season though.

Of course you wouldn't, but don't you think it's realistic to have thought we would drop points at some stage? If we're talking purely about position in the table, most would say where we are is positive. If you're talking about how we've dropped those points, that's a bit different and obviously opens up the debate.

We were always going to struggle at times, what we were doing in August and September was never likely to continue, which plenty of people predicted at the time!

Our form since November is more than just a bit of a struggle. We've been lower midtable form for three months or more.

What's the betting on us being here next season?

I am more confused as a Town fan now than I have been in a long while. That's probably down to Lambert being equally confused at the helm.

At this point, the start to this season looks like Lambert's 'blip in form' rather than all the winless runs.

Sometimes but not always.

For instance the North Stand were supporting Barnsley in Mick's last game but Ipswich still beat them.

The Fan Experience at PR last season was, according to all the superfans, much, much better when Lambert came in. We still got relegated in the limpest fashion possible. I fear you're overestimating the influence that a bit of a gee-up from the stands can have.
