'Early research indicates the coronavirus has mutated, similar to SARS' on 17:08 - May 5 with 1398 views | BlueBadger | This is what basically stopped SARS as a potential threat - it killed too many hosts to be able to spread. What happens to covid next will be interesting - will it turn into something like the common cold which is essentially untreatable and unvaccinatable or more like flu, in which epidemiological trends can be monitored and potentially mitigated against with vaccines for vulnerable groups?

'Early research indicates the coronavirus has mutated, similar to SARS' on 18:15 - May 5 with 1346 views | Guthrum | You may end up with a scenario where the milder strain will essentially out-compete the more dangerous one (due to hosts surviving and staying fitter, thus able to pass it on) and force it pretty much into extinction.

The positive stories don't serve the narrative to scare the public into a frenzy whereby people are less wanting to go outside.

We can't have good news without bad news can we? Feels like we're deep in the tunnel rather than seeing a light at the end of it.

I don't think you can have read that link fully EG - it says it's not a new strain, it's the one that's dominant right now and has been since mid-March. It was new in February this year.

I had. I meant it is mutated from the original strain and is more contagious than that one. And in a few months it will have mutated again
'Early research indicates the coronavirus has mutated, similar to SARS' on 09:11 - May 6 with 818 views | StokieBlue | There are a lot of caveats to this I believe: - SARS mutated when it was still mainly a locally restricted issue thus the mutation could take hold over a large population of the virus. - C19 is far more spread out than SARS so even local mutations would take a long time to replace the "main" strain in the global population. There are also possibilities of lots of local variations which are worse or even weaker. - C19 was different to SARS in that it is asymptomatic and doesn't kill quickly enabling it to spread exponentially and it doesn't kill all it's hosts quickly. Given this the "main" strain will take a long time to be replaced as hosts will pass it on. SB
