Woohoo! We got a COVID test slot 🥳 10:25 - Sep 12 with 2860 viewsthebooks

Harwich. About an hour’s drive I reckon.

Taken hours of wife and I hitting the 'Book a test' button, but got there in the end. Just before the 4 day limit ended when we would have had to isolate for 14 days (I am assuming they don't actually have the virus, of course).

God knows how people without internet/half-decent IT skills would manage.

Thanks to CB Blue who gave me some good advice yesterday.

Oh, and to the dudes who suggested we're not eligible for a test, that we haven't got symptoms or that there are in fact loads of slots and postal tests available, or that this is the fault of returning holiday makers, not an absolute shïtshow of a government 👍

(And the dude who wished me a quick and painless death)

Why would anyone get bored with implying that (unelected bureaucrat) Dominic Cummings seems to have an unnatural hold over his supposed employers?

Whilst the particular incident referenced might be small potatoes in the pantheon of this government's mal-administrations it has its place in that list and, like the rest of that disreputable activity, should not be forgotten.

Mrs Plums has just been offered a test as part of the Imperial College study. They’re clearly still available for ‘Herd’ research which seems odd when there’s a shortage. You’d think people with symptoms would be prioritised.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

It's just childish to keep banging on about it. People don't care, they have moved on. Most don't even remember it, apart from the same half dozen on here that just keep bleating.

The whole thing’s shambolic. There was one other car at the Harwich test centre, which was in some huge field.

So I suspect there probably were tests available in Ipswich, and the journey to Harwich, hassle and stress of the last couple of days was pointless. But who knows.

World-leading, gold standard processes and systems my arse.

No I don’t get bored and unfortunately life has been far to short for thousand of people who have been let down by how this government have dealt and continue to deal with the current crisis

But if you are happy then all must be well in your world

Now that's where we will have to disagree.

No matter how the matters are raised, how we remind ourselves of what this particular government is like, whether that be through attempts at humour, full volume rants or more measured approaches, it is important that we do remind ourselves. To "move on" as you claim "people" have done is, surely, a denial of one's responsibility in our representative democracy.

If, as you say, "most people" don't remember the way they were sneered at by the de facto leader of the government then to my mind that is all the more reason to remind them in whatever manner best fits the situation.

By your logic we should "move on" from each inept lurch the government makes presumably after their next. You "move on" if you wish but I will remember Cummings long after he is removed from a position of influence, I will remember consistent mishandling of the pandemic from a social, health and economic perspective, I will remember ministers lining up to attribute blame for their errors to anyone but themselves, I will remember these payments for the provision of PPE:

Aventis Solutions Ltd (a recruitment company) £18.5m
Ayanda Capital Ltd (a currency trading company) £252.5m
Clandeboye Agencies Ltd (a coffee machine supplier) £108m
Excalibur Healthcare Ltd (unbelievably a healthcare supplies company) £25m
Luxe Lifestyle Ltd (a "lifestyle" company with no employees or trading history) £25m
PestFix (a pest control company) £108m

I will remember "moonshot" and "Covid Marshalls".

I see remembering these things as my responsibility in return for being given the right to vote.

No need to be personal pal. I haven't been. Just saying let's move on and chill. It's no good keep going over old ground. It's not going to make the situation anything better. People have a lot more to worry about than Cummings.

Think yourself lucky you just had a drive to Harwich and you were actually able to book a test in the end.

A colleague of mine in France went for a test last Saturday, she said they had previously used a booking system but it was impossible to get a test slot so France just told people to turn up and queue..... her wait time in her car at the test centre 3.5 hours!

Just so you know it’s obviously not just the uk government that have screwed this whole thing up

In basic terms, one of the UK’s greatest leaders, thinks you are being a bit thick.

Mate, it is just patriotic for the British on here, to treat you as a thickie.

More is the question, is there any point at which you think the electorate should hold government accountable or should we simply "move on" from every mismanagement and corrupt act and vote them in again to avoid the supposed mismanagement and corruption that any government left of centre is bound to have because that's how communist USSR worked?

To be fair, the trip to Barnard Castle negates the need for a test.

As long as you can drive there, recover with a stroll along the river and drive home again, you are free from the virus regardless of any other symptoms. I think that's how Dom's rules work.
