So many players selling themselves in that clip! And the final freekick placed so well that the defender is covering it on the line, and still can't get near heading it away.
I love Darren Currie. A player even I could beat in a race, but with sublime skills way above our level.
Definitely spoke about this before on here but he was assistant manager at Dagenham when I was doing my work experience there many years ago (7ish years i’d imagine). Anyway he heard I was an ipswich fan and between him and the clubs secretary, sorted me a signed memorial shirt they had for the FA cup tie against Ipswich back in 2002. Signed by both sets of players. Was given to me on my last day there. Lovely gesture. Always felt it was Darren Currie who’d started the ball rolling with that but never got to find out. Was about 15 at the time.
I always keep an eye out for who he’s managing since then. A good bloke on and off the pitch. Thought it was worth sharing.
He was a very good player. Great control and technique, if he was a yard faster he would've gone even further.
I played against him when he was at Hendon towards the end of his career. TBH I didn't know he was there until we got out to warm up. He was still good then and he must've been 36 / 37. Not like he ever relied on pace though, to be fair.
Remember him for kissing his boots before the start of every match. I think he said that the day he couldn't do it he would know it was time to retire. I do think many players would benefit from doing more work on their suppleness.
I used to love watching him, superb ball skills, great dead ball delivery, and then you'd see him absolutely busting a gut down the touchline, and a sub jogging past him warming up on the other side of the line.
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.
