On 28 September 2019, Swayne remarked that "blackface" was an "entirely acceptable bit of fun". ... in December 2020 he called for healthcare and scientific experts to be "put in their place" and said: "We're [the government] paying too much attention to health professionals and scientists on health and science issues." Wonder what his favourite cheese is.

“We’re paying too much attention to health and science experts on health and science” That’s absolutely superb and basically represents everything that has gone wrong with Covid decision making.

Not only what's gone wrong with Covid. It's what's gone wrong with the UK. And yet people in increasingly large numbers have bought into this type of baseless bullsh*t.

Even this whole issue of "hotel quarantine" has been politicised. The scientists advising the Government said it has to be for everyone. Johnson over-ruled them and the majority of his cabinet to pick out certain countries. Was it Gove during Brexit campaign that said we were "fed up with experts?"

Otherwise known as nationalist populism. Or is it populist nationalism? This is normally where someone would draw parallels with various fascist or communist regimes in the past, but I can't be arsed.

The greatest trick the right-wing Establishment ever pulled was convincing enough voters that they were anti-Establishment. They do that by throwing the more valuable and potentially constructive elements of the Establishment like science, academia, the justice system, the civil service, the NHS, education, local government and indeed our democratic standards under the bus. Leaving Establishment power, influence and money (and the flip side of disenfranchisement, inequality and injustice) untroubled and unquestioned. Which is what they’re in politics for.

But as an MP he holds a position of responsibility, albeit a minor one. Self publicists like this will never accept any views or evidence that challenges their own opinions, so they should just boot him out as unfit to represent his constituency and contribute to parliamentary affairs. What a shower the politicians are.
