I’ve seen neutral fans claim our 3 year & 4 year contracts are a risk which they hope will financially cripple us if we don’t go up. It does feel strange to be giving players 3 years +1 optional or straight up 4 year deals at this level tbf

The club must have faith that Edmundson will have significant value whatever happens

Goes both ways really, doesn't it? 1/2 year deals leave you exposed if the player succeeds in their first season, either to a cut price sale or just losing them on a free.

It's partly what's been used to entice them here. I doubt Edmundson was being offered four-year deals elsewhere.

We are one of 4-5 clubs who deserve some success and if we're finally using our club size to our advantage then good. Fook neutrals.

Truly impaired.

Overdue rather than deserve imo, but otherwise yep.

Longer term deals will help with the negotiation and often result in slightly lower wages as player gets a longer term guarantee and the assurance of bigger pay off if the dreaded termination happens.

What this truly represents is owners with the nous to work the contract situations to garner fees when resold. Even earlier in the summer. Drinan was never going to play again but putting him in contracted represented money changing hands to improve turnover situation.

Just as long as we don't hand out a five year deal to the manager :)
(no offence to PC, but I still shudder at that decision on Lambert...)

I still shudder that he wasn’t fired Dec 19, let alone given a five year contract. Totally nuts.
