You never heard stuff like this under Lambert. Or Hurst for that matter. 13:30 - Jul 30 with 2060 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

"Today, Gary’s going through clips with Scott Fraser on positional play, Franny Jeffers is talking with the strikers about movement, Ian Craney’s out with players doing passing. We’ve got to make these players better footballers."

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

You never heard anything from Lambert - he just treated the press with such disdain that his guard was up for every question - he wouldn't give a single iota more of information than he had to - bar the first few weeks when he came bouncing into the place

They'll have done all that stuff, let's be fair — we just wouldn't have been told about it, and for no good reason really. Crucial the current regime keeps up its more open approach.

There certainly wasn't any evidence of the previous managers "making these players better footballers."

How do you do anything much with a squad of 40 plus player? Add in those who are too old, those who were injured or at least not fit for one reason or another and I can’t see how much was done at all. There’s no evidence anything was. Regardless, the games played over two years tell me the players weren’t fit enough.

How many young players have improved on reaching the first team squad? I have to go back 20 years to Burley (possibly Royle with Bent) to think of any improvement in players that got to this level.

As for the openness of Cook, Ashton, O’Leary, I agree. It’s crucial.

That was notable from Cook's televised training sessions. So many players and such a congested training ground.

The other notable quote along these lines was what Ashton had to say about 9.30am meetings about culture and about doing the little things right like picking up litter and caring about the whole environment.

Quite. Refreshing honestly last night from those in charge. Of course there’s an element of saying the right things, but even little bits like Cook being transparent about priorities & competitions was refreshing. We all know the answer, it’s just nice to hear those in charge cut the BS and stop trying to give politicians answers.

The one image I remember was seeing Lambert Leaning on the advertising boards when we were losing, whilst the teams took a water break, opponents management team talking to the players, whilst ours just stood there.
