Does anyone remember Eddie Spearritt? Played for us in the late 60s. In particular I’m trying to work if/when he played in goal for us (his usual position was midfielder) - I’m pretty he played a game in goal but not sure who for (he later played for Brighton) or against.

Eddie Spearritt was our original super-sub, back in the day when subs - just the one - were first allowed.
I always think of him as a mid-fielder but he'd play anywhere pretty effectively - though I don't recall seeing him in goal. |

Town won 5-0 and many of our players taking off one boot towards the end of the game, to rub it in.. a bit unsporting I thought.. But a good start for me! | | | |

Apart from his game in goal for Brighton, I think that he may have been the "default" backup for a few teams..
He played for Carlisle for a few seasons, where the keeper was ever reliable Allan Ross - a few years before, Ross was 2nd choice goalie and due to an injury crisis was named as the only Sub. During the game one of the players was able to continue and he played outfield. Ross retired and then before my folks bought their council house, used to come round and collect the rent!!! | | | |
