My first game at Portman Road 19:10 - Aug 22 with 2636 views | TractorFrog | Yesterday was my first ever game at Portman Road, and I wanted to say what a brilliant experience it was. At the start of the match in particular, the fans were cheering and clapping at every remotely good thing that Ipswich did, giving the place a great atmosphere and allowing me to fully understand the value of home advantage, particularly the roar from the crowd after Ipswich's goals. Last time I went to a match, we were away to Coventry City at the St Andrews stadium. The Coventry fans had three stands but all fitted into one, only just outnumbering the travelling Ipswich fans, who filled their one stand and certainly won on noise levels. The atmosphere at Portman Road was infinitely better, to the point that I could barely hear the MK Dons fans apart from when they scored (they also chanted, 'you're just a sh*t...' at one stage; could anyone fill me in on what the final word was?). The chanting from the North Stand was relentless and impressive, particularly the drumming and the 'blue and white army' chant, while also keeping the effing and jeffing to a minimum. The only negative was the booing at the end, which saddened me given the fantastic match. Obviously a win would have been nice, but the match was extremely entertaining, with both goals, particularly the first, pure class. Macauley Bonne looks to be our best finisher since the McCarthy days. Another positive was the reaction to the taking the knee, which got a huge cheer, and if there were any boos I didn't hear them. Ipswich fans, keep it up, that was the best match I've ever been to!
| They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all! | Poll: | Who should start in CM with Cajuste? |

It was my first game in 18 months and I remember rhetorically asking myself in the second half after Bonne put us 2-1 up ‘where else would I actually rather be right now?’ [Post edited 22 Aug 2021 19:27]

I have to say, that despite this unacceptable position of no wins, which makes Wimbledon a truly must win game, I am really enjoying Portman Road this season and the return to watching live…. And like you at one point in the second half when we were turning the screw and the north stand was reacting I really did also think this really is my favourite place!!! Let’s hope we can start to get the results to match the joy of watching live, a team that for a long time, is trying to attack frequently

As frustrating as the results and the errors have been. After all the pain and mental torture the pandemic has given its so nice to have football to enjoy again and enjoy we certainly can. I know there are some where results are key I get that, but after the last 18 months or so to be able to watch town with supporters in attendance is just incredible and really brings home that even though results haven't been great you have people meeting up again. Some are watching the town without a loved one they may once have watched together with. I appreciated I'm a difficult poster to the forum. But I can't describe the joy I feel by following town and the whole negative angle frustrates me but mainly because I'm thankful I'm still here to watch town after having and suffering covid last year and for me watching town is something I at one point didn't think was going to be possible again. So I apologise to those who don't like my posts but I love reading OP's like this as this is how I feel every Time town play.

My first game at Portman Road on 22:16 - Aug 22 with 1957 views | ArnieM | I think on one of the rare occasions when Town fans actually didn’t sing , the MKDons fans cheekily chanted “ your support is f lucking shyte” …. Lol oh the irony !

My first game at Portman Road on 00:37 - Aug 23 with 1807 views | ketton_itfc | Glad you enjoyed it! Forty odd years on, I still have the same feeling of anticipation going to a game in Ipswich as I did when I was a kid. Every time I see the floodlights in the distance just the best feeling ever. Go to a game on a Tuesday evening under the floodlights. That is really special.

I love that feeling when you suddenly feel/hear the volume go up with fans all round the ground clapping etc.

I still get a shiver thinking back to being a kid in Churchman's and hearing the tannoy dude say, "Please welcome... YOUR TEAM... The Super Blues... IPSWICH TOWN!!!"

My first game at Portman Road on 16:48 - Aug 23 with 1046 views | Keaneish | Excellent to hear and i think the vast majority are in complete agreement with you. As you say, such a shame a few vented with some boos. I think this was partly a reaction to the anti-climax of the final few minutes compared to the whole game itself. I thought the North Stand and Blue Action were in good voice and reacted well to supporting the side when we gave away silly goals. Long may that continue. It was in stark contrast to the goals at Cheltenham which reduced us to silence.
