Awful. No excuse, given the signings, for a complete inability to play through the middle. This is tactical.

Today was a game we needed to win to get some momentum, coming off the back of a big win for us and a heavy defeat for Accrington, and here we are staring at a loss having been a goal up at half time. Not remotely good enough.

Meanwhile Doncaster are beating MK Dons 2-1. Football’s a ridiculous sport.

Agree, really poor show today and Cook goes further backwards. All well smashing 6 past the side bottom of the league but we look pretty woeful nearly every week 2 months into the season.

The manager is clearly unable to get his side to string some wins together. Let’s face it he hasn’t been up to much since he took over the reigns .

I can stomach this a lot more if we at least played well but we've been really bad this second half.

Sounds as though we weren't great first half but we went in 1-0 up, you regroup at half time and look to push on and finish the job. Instead we concede within 5 minutes and go on to fall behind without ever getting into the game. Against Accrington in the third division with a ridiculously expensively assembled squad. We're on for 10 points from 10 games, that's a mile off where we needed to be to launch a promotion challenge.

It's the football gods. They made a mistake Tuesday, they forgot Town fans are not allowed to be happy or be given hope. Normal service resumed....we really are a bit sh*t This has been awful. One step forward, 3 back!

Agreed. I said at half time that limiting them to nothing and taking our one chance was the sort of performance we'll need to replicate a number of times this season. It seems we can't replicate it for two halves, let alone multiple games.

First half was just OK, we got the goal we needed and we should have been able to ride the game out. Instead we went backwards. It reminds me a lot of the seasons under Lambert where we do OK for one half and then just don't even bother turning up for the second half. We barely passed the ball, ended up lumping it nowhere in particular. Bonne is OK in the air but he's not a targetman and even if he was there's no one near him. When we've got Celina, Burns and Fraser it's criminal that we didn't play the ball to their feet more. We have good enough players to deal with a team pressing us high.

Yeah not really acceptable at all. I like Cook but I’m so sick of managers hyping up these absolute nothing clubs and giving them so much respect. We are Ipswich Town with an insane squad for this level, we should be going out there to smash the likes of these every week not constantly talking our opponents up. If we don’t put a run together very very soon then promotion is already down the drain, disgusting.

I do question whether the two CBs are good enough on the ball for us to play through the lines. They both worry me on the ball.

Promotion's already down the drain. I've been trying to say this for ages; people are setting themselves up for a fall if they think we can romp to promotion or that we're only a couple of wins off playoff spots. We'd need the best sustained run we've had for years and years to even stand a chance of reaching the playoffs. There is nothing to suggest that's going to happen with this setup. Not even close.

I wonder if we have someone who keeps letting Carbon Monoxide off in our dressing room at HT as pretty much every game we come out for the second half so sluggish and either let the game drift or let the other team back into it. Not the only issue but we don't help ourselves and in games like today it just gives all the momentum to the opposition who do a much better job of keeping it up. On your other post re: CBs, I'm not sure there's been enough to warrant Woolfenden dropping out seeing as he's probably the best CB on the ball we have. Both Edmundson and Burgess are capable of some good long passes but as you say don't really break out or pass quickly enough out of defence to give the midfield a chance to do something positive with the ball. Penney and JD give a more secure back line but Cook can't work out how to balance the team when you've not got full-backs who bomb on all the time. In isolation it's the sort of game you can begrudgingly shake off as one of those days if it's sandwiched in between a good couple of runs but as it is makes the last 3 games seems like brief respite from the norm where there still looks like we have a lot of work to do.
