A lot of people who are usually in the know who I speak to outside this board aren't either.

Another name I've heard is Derek McInnes, but like everyone else I don't have a clue and could well be Harris announced later - but that isn't what I'm expecting

Pretty sure 2011-2013 was before Ashton's time at Bristol.

Apologies - nit intended...(much)

As itfcjoe has mentioned the feeling is that whilst Harris has been interview a lot of the energy has been focussed elsewhere.

Might be someone Harris wants in his set-up though!

You are correct. I swear I've seen BC fans moaning about him getting rid of McInnes recruitment guy there and the pair don't get on.

Edit - from our resident BC fan....

"Yes, he was at Bristol City with Derek McInnes. Steve Lansdown brought in Ashton as a consultant in 2012 (Ashton’s consultancy - Tactical Change Ltd) when McInnes was already in charge.

One of the first things he did was get rid of McInnes’s good friend, Russ Richardson who was Head of Recruitment. That enabled him to bring in his technical recruitment “team” and the much lauded database (lauded by him!). It saw us sign a lot of journeymen on high wages with little value….that O’Driscoll and Burt, then Cotterill and Burt had to rebuild from.

I would think McInnes would tell Ashton to pi$$ off after the Richardson sacking. So you don’t have to worry about McInnes. Russ Richardson rejoined McInnes at Aberdeen."

Didn't Ashton sack him at Bristol City?

No, he didn’t sack him, but Ashton was brought in as a Consultant via his company (Tactical Change Ltd) during 2012. McInnes was sacked post-Ashton after results went downhill.

One of Ashton’s recommendations was to get rid of Head of Recruitment/ Chief Scout - Russ Richardson. RR good mates with McInnes and followed him to Aberdeen. If you were cynical you’d suggest that Ashton’s recommendation was so that he could get his own recruitment team / processes in place…and culminated in City signing a lot of journeymen on high wages and no resale value. Those ultimately cost McInnes his job after a really bright start.

My mate worked for City during that period and the aftermath when O’Driscoll was appointed to replace McInnes.

I would therefore be surprised if McInnes would want to work for Ashton again. But happy to be wrong.

For timeline purposes, Ashton joined City permanently in Dec 2014, although not officially announced until Jan 2015.

So you thought that McInnes wouldn’t want to work with Ashton again, yet he has applied for the job; and you also said Pearson is seeing the mess made of what he did at Bristol City but has also apparently applied for the job?

Maybe Ashton isn’t the devil incarnate after all?

Or we could just cut the middle man and have him as manager, as that's his role at Cardiff!
