For what it’s worth 12:56 - Jan 20 with 1488 viewsCheltenham_Blue

I couldn’t care less if it’s McKenna, Ashton or if they’ve raised Derek Acorah from the fking dead to make the signing, so long as the player is either better than we have or puts pressure on the likes of Evans to play better.

The state of some of us, desperate for a bit of a conspiracy story at the club because a couple of fed up Bristol City fans said they think Ashton is a bad, bad man.

One of the most highly rated coaches in the country as our manager. Let that sink in and pop a smile on your faces girls.

Swallowing every word from the Bristol City fans seems to make a few on here believe they have some kind of secret knowledge.

It has added a lot of self perceived authority to their bullsh1t.

Truly impaired.

Fans from the other clubs he’s been at aren’t very complimentary either.

Personally I have mixed feelings about the man, the results haven’t suggested that we’ve recruited particularly well under him, and the data driven approach has seen us firmly mid table so far, Cook failed here but how much of that was due to him being a round peg being forced into a square hole? Cook did exceptionally well with Portsmouth and Wigan yet failed here, what was the difference? Richardson was missing but it wouldn’t be just that.

Having said that I’d rather we signed no one then another midfielder. We could field an entire starting 11 of them as it !

Think you need to give the players more of a chance. Sounds like things weren't great under Cook.

No one can be expected to know everything and different people will have different ideas to bring to the table.

Will Ashton be aware of many players he thinks would suit us? Definitely.

Will McKenna? Absolutely.

To suggest it's not a collaborative decision is pure speculation at best. What self-respecting manager would join his first club without the guarantee of signing off on his squad?

Labelling anyone as so and so's signing is a numpty thing to do.

Precisely. Many clubs have this structure and you always hear the manager say it's a three way thing and all must agree.

Cook didn't sign up for that and I can see why he didn't like it. McKenna almost certainly did sign up for it and I doubt he took this job lightly as it could make or break him.

So are you agreeing with ChrisMakin that it was Ashton’s players brought in and not Cook’s? If so, I’ll again ask where the evidence is because if MA has lied on last summer’s transfer process, he needs challenging to his face at the next supporters forum or in writing now.

Was the data driven approach in place for the first game against Morecambe? My understanding was that Ashton was busy doing transfers for the first couple of months, but I may be wrong. Again, something to challenge him on.

My opinion is that Cook did become a square peg in a round hole and from what Cook has said that happened pretty quickly into the season. The only question of MA I have at the moment is why PC stayed so long.

When the forces of J2 and footers agree on something it can be considered a TWTD fact beyond question.

Much like the process for signing players under the new ownership.

Now go in peace to love and serve the Lord.

Hang on, I've always maintained that I believed the summer transfers were a mixture.

I agree PC brought in some players from his own wish list. However, I do believe when he struggled to get certain players in ( again, as we know Wigan turned down various offers for a few players) then yes I believe Ashton stepped in as we had fk all players left after demolition time.

Alot of the signings just didn't align with how I saw a PC squad being built.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.

They definitely did a number on several of our 'more easily led' supporters.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

This.

Unfortunately thick and gullible people have access to the internet also.

The thought that Ashton is just making all the decisions on his own and someone like McKenna is just here accepting that is laughably ridiculous.
