I can 100% see why people wouldnt want him at their club, but it also seems strange that he's played professional football for Clyde for the past 4 years.

...why is it only an issue now?

I guess what MG has done has put the spot light on it too.

The player will be miffed, rightly or wrongly.

Wonder if he can claim the full value of his contract?

It's a difficult situation isn't it. Raith would have been better off not having anything to do with him in the first place.

On the one hand you simply would not want a rapist working for you, I mean, how will all the women workers at the club think about that, and what about the ladies team?

On the other hand, do we believe in rehabilitation? Where does it start and where does it end.

Also, I don't think he was convicted in a court was he?

They would have been wise to have stayed well clear of this one.

Chairman needs to step down now.

Someone should give Yorkshire CCC a call to cut and paste their "road to recovery" plan.

I'm pretty sure that DG doesn't have to do anything here, and that Raith have no recourse against him.

All of the issues were well-known before the contract was signed, and the only parties that have brought the club into disrepute will be those who signed him, not DG.

Raith can hope that they can persuade DG to tear up his contract and/or seek gainful employment elsewhere. If they can't, however, I can't see what's to stop him doing a Winston Bogarde, complying with the terms of his contract, and pocketing his cash for the next 2.5 years.

The correct call. For those with more knowledge of Scottish football, was there similar opposition when he joined Clyde? It seems strange that he was playing for 4 years after the case.

Interesting point regarding rehabilitation - also it raises questions about the role and function of prison within society (I know he never went to prison).

If someone was convicted of rape and was released from prison would that persons debt to society be served? Why should someone be punished continuously once they have served their time.

It does raise an interesting point. If you've been convicted and served your time then you can (without consequence) show contrition, take responsibility, apologise, etc.

If you haven't been convicted and haven't served time but have had to cough up £100k in a civil lawsuit, then showing contrition etc carries a risk of inviting a prosecution ...

Still, I'm not really sympathetic. The words of the judge in the civil case were pretty damning.

I have absolutely no sympathy for him at all. But as I said should someone be punished again-and-again once they’ve been released from prison (not applicable in this case I know).
