The Ukraine situation and sanctions against Russia 14:14 - Feb 28 with 1709 viewsJimmy86

Firstly, I wholeheartedly show solidarity and support to the nation of Ukraine and all of its people, the invasion by Russia is cowardly and disgusting. Putin is absolutely mental and clearly a bellend..

However, I do think it's slightly unfair to kick Russia out of European and world football tournaments etc. That's punishing the whole nation for the actions of their mental leader. I'm sure many Russians would also condemn the invasion themselves and it wasn't the choice of the people or Russian football federation to go to war with the Ukraine..

Just my take on it, for what it's worth... it would be similar to us being kicked out of playing football at major tournaments because we invaded Iraq, for example

I think the point is that we are actively trying to upset the normal Russian people to get them to turn on Putin.

Truly impaired.

What would look a lot better is if the Russian football federation was to condemn what Putin has done. Use football as a positive vehicle to denounce the war almost

"if the Russian football federation was to condemn what Putin has done."

With respect Jimmy, I'm not sure that would have the result you'd be hoping for.

What, in the same way that the IOC not allowing Russia to compete as 'Russia' has done wonders to stop industrial drug-use amongst Russian athletes?

Fair enough, I just don't think it's all that fair to punish a whole nation for the actions of a mental autocratic leader...

Our FA, Premier League, EFL etc.didn’t take a stand on Iraq or anything else from what I remember. They’ve also just welcomed the Saudi regime as stakeholders in the Premier League.

And that’s without the real, authoritarian threat Putin has to dissenters in Russia.

It’ll be the man and woman on the street that can force change just through relative anonymity and a certain safety in numbers.

As I have said in a previous post, the sanctions when Putin invaded the Crimea didn’t do a sh1ts worth of good, they needed to be harder & for longer. Stop being a poofy nation & don’t let him get away with it again……….cause that’s what’ll happen with that philosophy!

yeah because Putin invading Ukraine and Allied forces including UK 'invading' Iraq are the same thing?

Not really comparable.

This is a dictator invading a country that is and has been no threat to any other, in fact i believe the only nation to have had had and given up its nuclear arsenal.

Bradford Park Avenue in National League North are having a go.

"The club would like to issue the below statement regarding the conflict in Ukraine;

‘Bradford has a storied and very popular Ukrainian population within its borders, the largest of its kind outside of London. They are proud to be a part of our wonderful city, and we are proud to call them our brothers and sisters.

This Wednesday we will stand, as one, in solidarity with Ukraine, and on the 30 minute mark in the game against Farsley Celtic will conduct a minutes applause. We encourage you to bring blue and yellow flags to the game to show your support.

In conjunction with the Bradford Ukie Club, we will also be running a bucket collection at the game with all money being donated to the Help Ukraine Emergency Appeal. Please give as generously as you can on the night for this excellent cause.

Some things are bigger than football.’

As I said, Putin is a total and utter bellend... a scumbag of the highest order, who deserves to have a bullet put through the middle of his forehead..

What I've been trying to say is it isn't normal Joe public or anyone from Russian sport who has invaded Ukraine, it's Putin.. I've also said I totally condemn what Putin/Russia has done.. it is despicable

I don't think anyone thinks you're a Putin fanboy by any means!

The point is of course to let Russia know from every angle possible their actions aren't acceptable.

Yes, some people's quality of life will be affected but they'll live.

Unlike too many of their neighbouring counterparts.
