The BBC were hyping up Ellen White as being a few goals away from Wayne Rooney to be England's highest ever goal scorer. I did think it wasn't fair to compare the two players, but I guess a lot of Rooney's goals were against teams like San Marino who are probably at an even worse level. Is mixing men and women's stats a new thing? |  |

Mixing the stats is utterly pointless/irrelevant in my honest opinion.
I think it is genuinely brilliant that the women's game is getting the exposure it is, but it is still a very different game, at a different point in it's evolution, with very different performance levels. And that's fine - you wouldn't look at 100m sprint records and say that Florence Griffith-Joyner is the 48th (made up number) faster sprinter ever, you'd say that she is the fastest women sprinter. |  |

I think the weirdest thing about England goals tally is that you can score a penalty in a 9-0 drubbing of San Marino or a friendly against N.Ireland and it counts but you can score in a big semi-final world cup shoot-out and it doesn't. |  | | |

Women's International footballers tend to outscore the men.
Christine Sinclair (188 international goals) and Abby Wambach (184 International goals) are good examples.
Some women have also started to play in mens teams (Ellen Fokhema is a good example). |  |

Thats a fair point, though to show my consistency I also think comparing achievements of male players from today with those from the 50s and 60s is pretty meaningless too, and always warrant caveats. | |
