I think we have enough defenders, Leigh looks great, Janoi, KVY, even Burgess is decent at left back, Ball can play there. Penney has had a poor pre-season, but as a back-up option he's ok. on Burgess, there's a difference to playing as a limited left back and a wing back he's not dynamic enough for that role if Leigh gets injured long term, in an emergency fine but that's all you would want him there for. |  | | |

We will be playing with a LWB so none of Janoi, Burgess or Ball can play there. Leigh is good but we need better, LWB is a far bigger priority for me than ST is. We definitely need both but LWB should be the one sorted first |  | | |

Definitely agree. If we don't get a LWB, one injury and realistically we're looking at Penney playing 20+ games before we can fix things. Across the 3 forward roles we've got Ladapo, TJJ, Jackson, Chaplin, Aluko, Harness, Edwards as specialists, Humphreys, Hughes, Chirewa as potential replacements, Harper and Wes Burns who can be shifted in there.
We can still stand a looooooot of injured forwards, even without recruiting more. |  |

Jackson, Ladapo and TJJ have all played as a 9 before. Also think you could shuffle some of the attacking midfielders in there if you were having a real injury crisis. | |

Penney playing 20+ games isn't some kind of disaster. He's perfectly capable.
If he wasn't a full back and didn't stay back at corners he'd also be a good set piece option. |  |

Chaplin is like a second striker, Harness i've not seen enough off, Aluko can take a man out of the game by beating them but isn't durable in terms of playing loads of games. | | | |

Neither Edmundson nor Burgess are dynamic enough for that role. I remember Mills saying it was a real weakness in that back three that Edmundson doesn’t get forward and isn’t comfortable in the ball in that role. |  |

That's fair. If there's a weakness in terms of personnel in the team/squad he's probably it, but we've got a very good squad, so that's no insult.
The striker dept. as a whole is potentially more of a concern, but I'm sure that'll be addressed with Hirst or someone else eventually. | |

I might be wrong but having three players in the LWB position isn’t out of the realm of possibility. It’s high energy and if one gets injured where do you go in our formation. We are looking for promotion we are not looking to shoe horn non specialists into very specialist roles. Not for me. Wolf is an ideal sweeper with his pace and calmness and does a great job bringing the ball out into the middle of the pitch. Look at his run that almost ended in a goal at Rotherham.
Donacien plays as well, surely. I'm sure Ndaba will get appearances, but the current three won't be worrying about their places at all at the moment. | |
