Graham Potter verbally agrees chels job... (n/t) on 10:16 - Sep 8 by Guthrum
Not so good if the job is a pain with overexpectation, an interfering boss and only lasts six months. But he probably thinks he can make it work.
Flipping it a bit - Potter was with Swansea for a season and with Brighton for two full seasons before moving on to bigger clubs. If he does well as Chelsea then a bigger overseas club could come calling - or even England - and he might just leave before they have the opportunity to sack him.

Or he thinks that he can't do so badly that he wouldn't be able to walk straight back into at least a Brighton level job when he leaves Stamford Bridge, having upgraded his salary in the interim.
Am I right in thinking that it was rumoured that he applied for the Town job when managing in Sweden? Obviously I am happy with McKenna and Gamechanger, but the Evans era may have panned out very differently if he had appointed Potter whilst still in the Championship.

Certainly his name was being bandied about. But we ended up with promising young manager Paul Hurst instead ...

I was being a bit facetious.
As an aside, I think it will be interesting to see how he gets on. He's consistently done well and has helped smaller clubs 'over perform'. This will be an interesting test to see what he can do dealing with the expectations that come with Chelsea and dealing with players and their egos of this nature.
I suspect the interfering boss thing is something he's likely to have come across before and all manager positions are inherently rather short term.
Though - that isn't the case for Klopp. 7 years at each Club - he's now due to leave Liverpool.

He was being coveted by the FA for the England job before Chelsea came calling, The FA are, or were a little surprised that he was approached for their job and are now scrambling for a back up plan

But if you look at the ownership and what they have done in the US, especially with the Dodgers, their current manager has been there for 7 years and just signed another 3 years.
Think in this case Tuchel just wasn't their guy, but it's not to say they will be trigger happy going forward.

Maybe. But I thought reports of the owners buying/refusing to sell players against the wishes of the Manager sounded particularly alarming for anyone trying to run the team. It's not even an expert DoF doing it, but seems more predicated on financial value.

I think he was interviewed or at least shortlisted but he went to Swansea instead.
And yes, even if it goes wrong I'm sure he'd get another shot somewhere like Wolves, Southampton etc.

Although, are Chelsea that big a club nowadays ? They have not had the success level of Manchester City or Liverpool of late. In London they seem to be overshadowed by the glossy front of Spurs and the continuing endeavour of Arsenal. They have never had the global reputation that Manchester United still, to some extent, enjoy. Even Newcastle's new found wealth makes Chelsea's previous reliance on a Russian seem like faded glory.
I do not disagree that Chelsea is a step up from Brighton but that is all it is. Maybe Potter sees it as a necessary year or two of drudgery before he gets a shot at the England, or Real Madrid, job ?

Let me edit that last sentence

Chelsea recently won the club world cup and the champions league,
When did City last do that? Ah, they haven't, in fact, other than United, when did any other English club complete the trophyset available to club sides?
City have 31 trophies, Chelsea have 31 trophies
You can't actually be serious by saying Spurs are a bigger club purely because they have a new stadium? When did Spurs last win a trophy? Same goes for Arsenal?
Newcastles new financial clout doesn't make them a bigger club than Chelsea either

No, I'm sorry, Chelsea are on a downward spiral at the moment. Why else would they sack their manager ?

The downward spiral has nothing to do with Tuchel being sacked
Tuchel was sacked over not wanting Ronaldo, over wanting to focus on football and leaving the hierarchy to deal with signings, and not him
Tuchel was a proper football manager and has been done so dirty by the board, he also wasn't Tuchels guy, and he wanted to bring in his own manager who would do things his way

A poor run of results also doesn't determine the size of a club, if that's the case, we are no longer a big club and are the equivalent size of Accrington Stanley

Will be interested to see who Brighton replace him with. If we were in the Championship, I’d say McKenna would be a decent bet. Think they may repeat the trick of before and look abroad.

So Aubameyang was the type of footballer that Tuchel favoured, and not Cristiano Ronaldo ? He has had one trouble maker foistered upon him and didn't want another. Thank goodness the Chelsea board didn't sign Haaland and really upset Thomas.

Tuchel wanted Aubamayang because he knows how to get the best out of him, the fact you have all these assumptions, maybe you need to go look at all the facts around the sacking and the signings
And if you also still believe that Ronaldo is, or was the problem at United, then you are a lost cause

Trying to fit Cristiano Ronaldo into last year's Manchester United team was definitely an issue, what with him making the transition from gifted winger of his previous tenure to goal poacher in his later years. Bit of a Finidi George situation.

The only place Finidi fit was into our hearts as a cult icon for being woefully sh!t3

My reckoning is they could go back to Nathan Jones, having done pretty well at Luton, since he was last at Brighton, and with his previous connections and time with the club, wouldn't be a bad fit.
