Alan Young. You may remember him from such games as wycombe. Or the game where he blew for HT then had to play 4 minutes of the first half in the 2nd half.

Wycombe one being where he disallowed Chambers' goal and cost us 2 points. That was 1st v 2nd at the time and the win would've put us just behind them with a couple of games in hand on them and 3rd. Just think, we could be in the Premier League under our hero Paul Lambert right now had it not been for that.

I'm sorry, you're going to have to expand on the Pompey game. Wtf did he do? Did he add the time on the second half at the end?

He basically forgot to add time to the first half. So when the teams came out for the 2nd half. They lined up facing the same ends as the first half. Played 4 minutes and then swapped ends to them effectively play the 2nd half lol

Intriguingly it is very hard to find an account of that on Google...

I seem to remember other mistakes in the Wycombe game clear penalty for them foul by Chambo ?

I think that's the penno he gave them, which Holy saved. Was in the box that night but yes I do remember him being consistently crap, not particularly in favour of either side. Did feel at the time like that disallowed goal was a real choker though, don't think there was much wrong with it and IIRC it was just before or after h/t.

It should’ve been a free kick and Chambers should’ve been sent off.

I think our fans have a particularly negative view of 3rd Division refs because Town, as one of the big fish in this league, are constantly on the end of the time wasting & dubious tactics of the division's lesser lights. These aren't easy to deal with for the referee, but it would be good to see a ref who clearly anticipated such nonsense would be likely & is prepared to try to do something about it relatively early.

Hopefully he's learnt from his mistakes, as we all ought to be allowed to do.
