Craig Forrest is 55 today.... 14:51 - Sep 20 with 1922 viewsBloots

....maybe it's just the passing of time, but he never seems to get the credit I think he deserves.

Should he go down as one of our best ever keepers?

How many were better than him?

Decent enough but considering he was 6' 5", he really didn't command his area like he should. Had a great rapport with the North Stand back in the day though.

Cooper, Wright, Davis, Bartos and Walton - I'd all have better than him...he was very good though!

....I don't think Wright was as good as many people say.

I wonder how many of his shirts he kept. Could be one very colourful array, and goalkeeping shirts in those days were BIG.

That's a whole different discussion. I'd even say Alexander was better or at least as good as CF.

Did like CF though.

Think he suffers a bit from being in goal when Utd put 9 past him. Think he conceded another 7 when he faced them again (after leaving us) too.

For me I can think of a few who were better, Wright, Cooper, Davis, Walton and Serini. Not old enough to remember Bailey but presume he could play too.

Mate of mine used to shout “keeper’s ball” in a half decent Canadian accent from the front of the North Stand in the early 90s. Craig gave him a thumbs up a couple times. Good old days.

I can remember Craig giving Cambridge fans 'a bit back' before turning to us lot and giving the clenched fist and bellowing 'come on', which inspired a good ten mins or so continued chanting. He was good like that was Canada's no.1.

Indeed ... Fearon had the best chant (is it a chant ?) ever...even though Craig was better, kinda always hoped it would be Ronnie playing in my teen ways with my chums just for that "Shining" moment.

Sereni was not a good all-round goalkeeper. He was a great shot saver, but many of those saves would not have been necessary if he had been better at all other aspects of the GK's arts. Craig definitely better than him.

I will never understand people who don’t rate Sereni. “He was a great shot stopper but…” what else do you want from a keeper?

Be able to catch crosses would have been a bonus for £4.5m.

He was bang average.

I always thought that Jon Hallworth was the slightly better keeper, Craig Forest's saves were more spectacular looking though.

Jon Hallworth was a calamity, In fact I would go as far and say he would be in the top 3 worst keepers we've had in our history.

I thought Hallworth was poor. I've never forgiven him for his disastrous debut, when we lost 4-3 at Oxford after cruising to a 3-0 lead. This ultimately was the relegation decider, although we'd also thrown away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-4 at home to Everton the game before. I assume Paul Cooper was injured.
However, Hallworth did carve out a decent career at Oldham & Cardiff so maybe he just needed some experience.

I was only a kid at the time he was with us so maybe I am mis-remembering but he always seemed very solid to me. When he left us for Oldham he spent 8 season as first choice keeper which included 3 seasons in the premier league. He also helped them to reach 2 FA semi-finals and a league cup final.
