Roxy Music - if you fancy a little musical treat on 09:20 - Sep 24 by GlasgowBlue
Lovely stuff Keno. Bryan Ferry and Roxy don't seem to get the same artistic credit given to the likes of Bowie.
But those first five Roxy albums were as out there as Ziggy and Aladdin Sane imo.
Who else would write a love song to a blow up doll?
And Ferry also endured as a solo artist much better than many other front men. Bands reforming is usually a bad idea, but Manifesto was an excellent album & "Flesh & Blood" and Avalon both had their moments, if very different from the original Roxy. Did see them live at Wembley Arena in 1980 but we had terrible seats, right at the back miles from the stage & I was off my face on booze & dope so can't say I got much out of it.

I’ve been at the back of Wembley Arena for a couple of gigs and quite frankly it’s so far away you may as well not be there. Not the best.
Yes, Roxy Music we’re good. Somehow a bit niche - poor word but the best I can come up with. I have copies of Avalon and Flesh and Blood somewhere but not Manifesto, which I don’t remember tbh.

Manifesto was their come-back album after a near 4 year hiatus. Very listenable but unsurprisingly less innovative than their early work. "Dance Away" was deservedly a massive hit. I started listening to Roxy in 1976 because a student friend of mine was a real diehard &he didn't seem to have any other albums.

Trash was the first single from Manifesto, which was a bit more Punky/ New Wave. Although it was remixed to sound more like 80's Roxy on future versions.
I still have an original copy of Manifesto which has the non single versions of Dance Away and Angel Eyes.
Angel Eyes, in particular, was more guitar driven than the single version.
Neither are as comercial as the single versions and I think the chart success defined their sound in the 1980's.
Think tbe doc has been around a while as I've defo seen it before but have it recorded to watch again.
Saw them live 20 odd years ago and they were very good.
Brian Ferry is certainly the coolest man ever to be called Brian.
They tend to get the glorified cover band label thrown at them and they do have a few covers in their catalogue TBF but that's mostly dues to Ferry enjoying paying tribute to his musical heros.
Superb band who have evolved over the years without anyone really noticing.

Their cover of "Jealous Guy" was superb & way better than Lennon's original IMO.

"glorified cover band"?
Good lord. Where were the people who use such descriptions in 1972?

Totally agree. Lennons version hurts me to listen to. Roxys is superb
I used to have an ongoing debate with a guy I worked with over what the best version, he was pro Donnie Hathaways version but for me it's Roxy all the way

That last minute and a half makes the hairs on my neck stand up. Not many songs have that effect.
I presume you have seen this then Glassers? From a film directed by Baillie Walsh, who grew up with us in Clacton. The Brings a lump to my throat for those days of the 70's, especially the last couple of minutes when they mime the ending..In fact, watching the whole film rekindles memories of our youth at that time ...

Baillie was always in Reg Browns. Never really knew him other than then to say Hi too. Quite the loner. He's done well for himself. You will definitely see the influence of our youth in the film. Moved me ...
