The guy is quality and still learning - offers so much more than Phillips

Bellingham is a class apart.

You watch Southgate put Phillips back in once fit.

He won't. Bellingham is a key player for a Champions League side, no way he doesn't play. With Bellingham, Rice, Phillips and Henderson, for the first time in a while we have 4 good options for those 2 spots.

With Rice and Bellingham the absolute standouts of those 4 though.

My point on Southgate is he loves a favourite. Philips is one, Mount is another.

Looks like he could finally be the A grade midfielder England have needed since…. well I’m stumped there.

Still only 19 however! Hope he’s got the head on him for when the going gets tough

Alexander-Arnold is a key player for what has been one of the best 3 sides in Europe over the last 5 seasons....

According to a couple of parents of academy players, Bellingham's younger brother (at Brum?) Is an even better prospect.

Amazed the top clubs in the Prem haven't snapped up Bellingham snr. His price will be far higher as/when they move and he always looked set for great things,

And gives the ball away far too much for his own good. He's great going forward but our defence isn't set up for his errors.

I think one of the issues there is structural. Lacking numerous training sessions and games* (not to mention battles to have players released by clubs in season) is likely to cause national managers to lean towards "tried and trusted" favourites, rather than indulging in too much experimentation.

Plus the opposition is so varied out of major competition. Veering wildly from San Marino to Germany. Makes it harder to assess how good the squad actually is.

* Especially the lack of friendlies during the run-in to this World Cup. It's a long time when your squad could fall out of form, or alternatives push themselves forward.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

With 3 centre backs in behind him ?

I do think James should play, but Trent is more than capable playing there in an international tournament, his defensive flaws are massively exaggerated imo.

When you say three CB's we do have Maguire clogging up one of those spaces. I'm not making any claims as to whether his flaws are exaggerated but the numbers don't lie which is all I am leaning into. TAA is a bit of a unicorn in his position and is playing for a side which masks his flaws and have been fairly dominant for a few years which is a different kettle of fish to the international arena.

I hear you. Whoever plays at RWB is the least of our worries tbh. More than happy with Reece James.

I think 3 centre backs of Stones Dier and Tomori would be ideal but its going to be Walker and Maguire and Stones I imagine.

I think Stones, Dier and Tomori would be my preferred choice too. Tomori looks absolute class from what I have seen of him which is admittedly not masses. RWB certainly isn't our main of concern as you say. I am most concerned about the lack of game time for a Kane replacement. Would love to have seen Abraham or Toney get at least some minutes rather than being called up and doing naff all bar training with the squad which I appreciate is important.

Doesn’t fit the system at all though. The squad is well set up to a 3-4-3 and he doesn’t provide the width you need from a wing back. Reece James has been the first choice for a recent European champion and is a better fit.

By the time Jude was Jobe's (his brother) age now he had played over 40 games in the championship and a quarter of a season in the Bundesliga.

Agreed. Ridiculous to give Toney his first call up and not give him a minute. Especially as stylistically, he is fairly similar to Kane in the way he plays.

Things did look better in that second half last night, funny wat happens when Saka isnt played at wing back.

Bellingham has developed (so far) into a great player due, in part, to the fact that he is away from England. Away from the English media hype media as well as from the public glare. He probably gets attention from the German press but not as much when compared to the tabloids here.

If he moves from Germany then I hope he goes to Spain.
