Has Ben Wallace had a lobotomy? on 13:20 - Oct 21 with 1610 views | Mookamoo | Its like supporters wanting the return of a former manager when 20 pts adrift at the bottom of the league while there is stall a mathematical chance of survival. He is correct though, Johnson did have the mandate, for whatever that's worth now and he would stand a better chance than any of the candidates with voters. It's an absolutely absurd idea, but they'll go for Johnson
Has Ben Wallace had a lobotomy? on 13:29 - Oct 21 with 1578 views | Swansea_Blue | They've got their slogan right on this one. It's hard to counter the mandate claim since they're still standing on his manifesto, and he wasn't replaced through a public vote. Bat sh*t crazy idea, but I can see it flying in the Tory Party. I think they'll have a shock if they do it though, as his approval levels were rock bottom with the public. There'll be MP resistance too, although I'm sure they could be persuaded to change their principles. In the cold light of day those saying they'd resign the whip probably won't once it's their jobs on the line. But stranger things have happened; maybe just be being away he'll have regained some public support. We mock and right this off at our peril imo.

Absurd, and makes an even bigger mockery of this country on the world stage. And if that wasn't bad enough it'd probably embolden Trump as well. What a time to be alive!

This is a group of people that thought Truss was competent enough to run one of the worlds biggest economies. They also perceived her to be electable. They have worse judgment than Marcus Evans. [Post edited 21 Oct 2022 15:18]

I don't think they've got much to lose. There are about 200 MPs all about to be unemployed*. If Johnson can claw back 10 points in the polls then 80 odd might just survive. They're going to lose the next election, it's now a matter of by how much. They're going to choose the hail mary and see if Johnson can bluster his way through the next election with minimal damage. *by unemployed, I mean go and take up a board seat for whatever company that has them in their pocket.

It's like some form of collective Stockholm syndrome. How anyone can think that Boris is the answer is beyond words. SB

Rob Ford (politics professor) made a good point too. Johnson was never popular (his poll ratings in 2019 were lower than May's in 2017) he got lucky that the Brexit issue benefitted the Tories under FPTP and he was running against a Labour leader who was even more disliked than he was. Now add in the lockdown parties tanking Johnson's personal approval and the Tories' reputation of economic competence being shattered and they won't be able to recreate the magic. It'll be similar to how Corbyn tanked between 2017 and 2019.
