Brentford vs Gillingham in the third round of the League Cup tonight 19:37 - Nov 8 with 2339 views | Miaow | I noticed the fixture and was thinking how it was rather good that two lower-division teams had progressed to the third round and were coming up against each other until I remembered that it's essentially First Division vs Fourth Division. Hopefully Baggott will give a good account of himself against Toney.

Brentford vs Gillingham in the third round of the League Cup tonight on 20:42 - Nov 8 with 2153 views | Illinoisblue | In a similar vein a few weeks back I was looking at the fixtures and saw Exeter v Port Vale and was wondering if that was a Division 3 or Division 4 fixture. And then slowly realised it’s where WE are.

Brentford had 81% possession, 16 shots, 7 on target & 14 corners. Gillingham scored with their only shot. Crazy......wonder of KMc attended.

Neil Harris is doing a decent job there.

Agree re: Harris. Apparently he was very close to taking the job here, post-Cook; or at least that's the impression he was given. Be good to see Baggott back here next year; sounds like he's doing pretty well down there. [Post edited 9 Nov 2022 8:16]

In what sense? (I'm wondering what you're seeing to mitigate for the fact that they're third bottom of the league.)

I'm convinced that all the noise about Harris last year was the ownership group testing the waters - once it became apparent that there was a significant amount of anti-Harris sentiment, they swiftly changed their plans and looked elsewhere.

I've obviously looked at odd results rather than the whole picture then. The bits I've seen he's come across well given they were in quite a mess when he took over. That table from 15th downwards is pretty tight and pretty crap then: https://www.twtd.co.uk/league-tables/competition:league-two/

Begrudgingly you have to say Steve Evans did a great job there. He's now got Stevenage up in 2nd in L2 too. I don't know how he does it because he doesn't seem a manager players would want to run through brick walls for and is pretty odious.

I'd argue he's actually doing quite a poor job there. To his credit, he got them in a fantastic position to even think about staying about last season, but then bottled it with a few games to go. Looking at twitter at the time (appreciate its not quite the fountain of knowledge), but a lot of Gills fans weren't happy with him for that. Plus they're now 3rd from bottom in League 2, not quite working out for him I'd say.

Got Gillingham close the play-offs a couple years back as well.

Seems like their problem is they can't buy a goal. Lots of narrow defeats and 0-0/1-1 draws and have only scored 6 (!!!) goals all season. Clearly put a lot of emphasis on being hard to beat last season to try to stay up and presumably have kept on with those principles this season but not making it work at all in an attacking sense. At least Baggott's getting a good experience I guess.

Despite their league position, Baggot is actually doing alright. He's been very consistent after a shaky start in the first couple of games. He's probably in their top 5 players.. He's chipped in a couple of goals , too.. The problem Gills have got is their complete lack of creativity and goals. I'd say he's getting lots of match minute experience. And a "toughening up". But not sure if there are many at that club that could really tutor him in the same way that Keogh would here.. I guess he's learning on the job a bit at Gills. But he's definitely holding his own as a first team regular..
Brentford vs Gillingham in the third round of the League Cup tonight on 15:00 - Nov 9 with 1310 views | Strimmer | It looks like Elkons getting some real life experience at Gills if nothing else. Gotta be more beneficial than getting rotated for a mid table side, at least in some ways - thats my guess anyway

On the whole Evans did brilliantly there. They were a disgrace in that 4-0 in January though, the players had given up before kick off. Was no surprise to see him sacked the next day.

He did especially well when you consider every loss he's ever had has been the fault of the referee. To manage what he's done with such wretched bad luck is extraordinary.
