Its gone up to £105 for the two of us, (he's 15). And thats WITH a Friends and Family rail card.
Thought it could be because we're relatively close to the date, so checked the price of travel to the Accrington game at the end of January. Nope, still £105. |  |

Trains in this country are way too expensive - they are a complete joke.
One way to get people out of their cars and onto public transport is to make trains a lot lot cheaper and to make them run regularly. Other countries manage it so why not here.

One way to get people out of their cars and onto public transport is to make trains a lot lot cheaper and to make them run regularly. Other countries manage it so why not here.

Lots of people don't realise that any child (5-15 years) can travel any return journey on Greater Anglia for just £2 when accompanied with a fare paying adult. So your kids would defo be a £2 fare each from LST-IPS. However these are only available from real people i.e. in ticket offices, not online or at the machines.
Furthermore, it's worth checking if that offer extends the length of the country. 5 years ago I went to Blackpool and back with my 2 girls and they were £2 each for the whole journey!
However, you won't then be able to use your railcard when just purchasing the adult ticket. Maths isn't my strong point but it's worth playing around with it as you could still buy an adult and child ticket using the railcard then get a £2 ticket. Worth speaking to your local ticket office I'd suggest.

Thanks for the offer, but we're already both season ticket holders. I just thought It might be nice to take the train, rather than having to do the 180 mile red eye, 6am start, because of a moved kick off time. | |

Agreed. I recently came back from Belgium and used the train a lot. The fares were much cheaper than here to start with, and there was just one ticket price, not the deliberately confusing array of tickets which seem in part designed to make people get the more expensive ticket.
Yet one more example of privatisation in this country being a complete disaster.

The first part is true, but it’s not a problem on this route as so many trains stop at Manningtree. The second part is only true if you use their booking service - you can just take the results they give you and book the trains yourself on any other website. | | | |

Not if you look at the tickets they offer you and then you go online and book the same tickets in 1 transaction, I’ve done that 5-6 times this season from Poole to Ipswich and saved myself paying £105 down to £65 each time | |
