George Hirst 08:29 - Jan 16 with 2771 views | itfcjoe | Was it just me who was reminded so much of Connor Wickham with his size, gait and style of play? Think even down to the bandages round his ankles he just looked a spit of him out there from when he was at town. Admittedly i was at South Stand end and had had a few beers so may not be the most reliable witness, but it looked uncanny

Far more in tune with our system re. balls into the box than Freddie, who just doesn't seem to play the same notes as the rest of the front three at times.

Either that, or "never come to Portman Road" it's been the rock that many a career has been broken on, player and manager, lol.

Apart from their sitter they didn't offer a lot, but then go and score that. We don't score those unfortunately.
Shame not to have Broadhead involved. Hirst* looks useful, reminds me heavily of Wickham. As soon as he ran on. [Post edited 16 Jan 2023 9:32]

Likeness certainly, but our almost immediate desire to hit it to his head was a concern. Uncanny how a football team known for attractive football has a default setting on hitting it long to a target striker. If that’s going to be a plan b we have a lot of work to o to find ways of supporting him, he at least showed the ability to control a ball delivered by Walton!

George Hirst on 12:05 - Jan 16 with 2073 views | BigCommon | Real shame we dropped so deep when he was on the pitch. Thought he looked a bit isolated. Would have been good to see a few balls for him to attack in their box.. All things considered, he did quite well. And took one for the team, with that yellow card.
George Hirst on 13:48 - Jan 16 with 1823 views | itfcsuth | Would like to see him from the off - I thought Ladapo was really poor. His selfish moment in the first half where he should have rolled in Burns had me cursing him for about the next 15 minutes. Walton Donacien - Woolf - Edmundson Burns - Evans - Morsy - Davis Chaplin - Harness Hirst Subs: Hladky, Edmundson, KVY, Humphreys, Aluko, Broadhead, Ladapo | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Very isolated. Freddie was too, could've got an artic lorry between him and his nearest teammate more often than not.

*started. His would-be assist to Morsy was only a few seconds after coming on.

Thought the one where he could have rolled it to Chaplin in the 2nd half was even worse, Chaplin was in a great position and would've been able to finish with his trade mark spin onto his left foot.

He's definitely got a rawness to him, which is probably why he's struggled in the Champ, but has some great attributes. It took him 5 mins to make a near post run and nearly get an effort on target, something we have barely had all season.

This! I couldn't understand why during the game (and plenty of others before), we didn't have anyone making near post runs, despite a percentage of crosses hitting that area. Ladapo always seems on his heels when crosses come in. Then one of the first runs Hirst made was a near post run to get on the end of an early cross. His movement was excellent. Hopefully this bodes well going forward.
