I wonder if he had a flat cap, whippet, pint of John Smith and was muttering "Ice age, call this an ice age, when I t''were a boy we had ice 3 miles high ......."

And he's still not in the top 100 oldest northerners.

Truly impaired.

I'm not suggesting for 1 second that the north sucks but does seem a tad strange that early humans are in Suffolk over 700,000 years ago but wait almost 690,000 years to visit the North. Rumour has it this visit was just too check out cheap cave accommodation around the Burnley area

Norfolkians were earlier, going by Keno's article -

"archaeologists excavating on a Norfolk beach, near the village of Happisburgh, unearthed more than 70 flint tools belonging to “the first-known prehistoric people to live in Britain.” These extraordinarily old tools, and technologies, were dated as having been made between 1 million and 800,000 years ago."

Being as they were from Norfolk, they probably gave up trying to travel when the square wheels fell off their carts.

I can only imagine that the 800,000 year old assemblage of flint tools from Norfolk is nothing more then evidence of a daytrip to Yarmouth for some early Suffolk hominids

Apparently the Norfolk find was described as a large family group

The carving in the rock said “Delia Out” did confuse historians

Archaeologists soon realised that the group though related to each other were surprisingly not natives of Norfolk due to the written word not arriving in Norfolk for another 799,800 years
