I’d take the play off final over 2nd place, big day out at Wembley… imagine all the Blue and white flags flying.. looks quality the Newcastle end in the league cup. Hope they win.

I would too but I don't think I could bear everything that leads up to it. And failure in the play-offs would be as gutting as missing out on the top two.
I think being guaranteed the result would take away all the excitement and expectancy.
I'm a tradionalist and Wembley should be for cup finals only (and not semi finals). From an itfc perspective sneaking up through the play offs when in league one troubles me a bit (I'd take it of course) but I think it's fantastic for the Championship given what's at stake, especially for non-parachute teams (eg Forest last year)
Play offs best way to go up if you go up but with ambitious owners, a good manager and more average Championship I would much rather get up and start preparing for next season asap.

Yea, I just got all excited watching the Newcastle fans waving the flags, and started day dreaming about a big day at Wembley and what a day out it would be.. then I woke up. 😂

Nope. First or second place every time. I of course loved Wembley 2000, but I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere near the place had we lost. Play offs and our all bar one failure is detrimental to my health.

What’s the latest list of clubs to have never played at new Wembley? With Plymouth and Bolton in the pizza final assuming one or neither of them have played there. Feels like it will just be us and Col Utd to have not played there. Which, if we snatch 2nd place, I’ll be more than happy about
Trying to think, without looking, when play-off finals started being played at Wembley. Always used to be a two legged affair which really was a survival of the fittest. Four additional games in a fortnight at the end of the season.
If I recall right, in the first year of the play-offs, Oldham and Leeds couldn't be separated after two legs and had a replay at St Andrews (Brum) which really seemed overkill.
You can just scrape in as 6th on the ;day by goal average and yet play a team who has just been pipped for third on the last game as well.
You could be ten points (or more) below them, and you have an equal chance of making the final. More so if you are someone like Barnsley who have been going like a steam train the past month - 19 points from 21.
When we were last top with 45 points they were 9 points below on 36 points. We are now 3rd, 8 points off the top with Barnsley having two games in hand meaning they could go 2 points above us.
Plymouth look vulnerable, but we are no longer looking certs for that 2nd spot

I think it's Italy in the Serie B where teams need to be within a certain amount of points of each other before they are played. For instance, the third place team goes straight up if they are 10 points ahead of fourth.

Interesting idea that, how far clear of 4th were we when we finished 3rd under Royle?
Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!
Gotta be 2nd place. In the Ashton-McKenna, MA talks about the really tight timescale to lay the new pitch - being in the Playoffs will delay the start of that by a couple of weeks. And it delays transfer activity by a month. Players need a rest, and then need to start pre-season - all of that is compressed by a month. A day out at Wembley would be great if we win, but I'd grab 2nd spot with both hands.

I think Blackburn and Accrington Stanley are two more.
Edit; well done Sitters… Forest and Vale both been there now.

Bolton played Stoke in the FA Cup semi, 2011. (75,000) Plymouth played Wimbledon in the L2 play-off final, 2016 (58,000)

Let’s hope we do, surely it’s our turn to have a good run.. and nick that 2nd place, if we can make The most of the two home games, maybe having Bolton Barnsley derby and Wycombe will Suit us better playing teams who want to Play football, and we can get the results we need from them.
